ouze (1), Germany does not count May 28, 2008 Eines der ältesten und besten bayrischen Biere. Aus der Klosterbrauerei des Weltenburger Klosters verspricht dieses Bier einen der besten Genüsse die ein dunkles Bier bieten kann. HoptimusPrime (17), Ascension Island Sep 5, 2009 A big malty beer. Now we’re talking! This is a great beer because it tastes like a beer should taste: beer. morningstar339 (1), las vegas, Nevada, USA does not count Feb 26, 2005 This beer is available on tap in the loreley restaurant located in the Phoenix Club, Anaheim MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Jan 30, 2008 500ml bottle poured into a lager glass. WKBD smells like a slice of bakery Utopia. Soft brown bread, caramel and malt overwhelm a faint raisin aroma. The nose on this beer made my stomach grumble. This dunkel pours light brown without any trace of haze or pulp. the head is medium-sized, the color of linen and settles quickly. The taste! Wow! This is a huge surprise. I was not expecting to hit such a great beer with this one. Heavy rye bread and malt accompany faint chocolate hints. The light crisp body contrasts delightfully with the flavours found in typically heavier beers. This is a must-try and is easily available in the U.S. Some beers simply hit the spot and this is a classic example. Britales (56), Cape Charles, Virginia, USA Jan 28, 2004 Perfect dunkel from the oldest Monastery Brewery in the world (1050)Plenty of time to get this right!!Not as heavy as some dunkels but smooth with a pleasant malt character suggesting cookies. Toasty, smokey finish. Great with spicy meats like wursts! austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Jun 15, 2002 Updated: Dec 31, 2003It blew away the other Munich Dunkels I tasted because it's mild, not bitter and appropriately complex. It's a bit bock-ish and sweet. Quite good, but unusual for its style. There's a slight roastiness present. danfosha (36), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 16, 2005 Poured a dark brown, with good size light-brown head. Not a lot of lacing, but the head was mostly lasting. Body was clear, with no particles.
This beer smelled and tasted of molasses through and through. Some dough, maybe sweat on the aroma. Light sweetness on the palate, not too acidic - well balanced, with average finish. Medium body, slightly creamy texture, soft carbonation, with a touch of tannin on the finish.
Very easy to drink, like most German brews, gone before you want to finish. From a bottle I brought to the US from the brewery. Drank a few months after freshness date, whcih was 4-15-05. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Feb 23, 2008 Pours a brownish amber color with a tall lingering froth. Mild aromatics at play with meat, coffee bean, and cocoa. Medium nectar with good carbonation. Defined cocoa, coffee bean, and unsweetened brownies balanced by a mild velvet hop bittering. The finish lingers with cocoa and coffee. Very tastey indeed. As the commercial description says, this specimen does have a sence of elegance to it with no medicinal properties to speak of.
