dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2007 23 oz. bomber. Pours a brown with a heavy dose of amber hues. Nice off-white head that diminishes pretty quickly. Nose is roasted carmel and a touch of nutty almond-like aroma. Tastes of roasted malt and heavy, sweet carmel. A hint of hops at the end, but this dunk is sweet. This is a very good dunkel. One of the better ones I’ve had. Very drinkable.
Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Nov 3, 2009 Bottle from beerangel.de, shared with ogivlado Poured a dark, slightly brownish red with a small-medium lovely thick off white head that went away relatively fast. Sweet grainy malt aroma, roasty and coffeeish but kinda akin to dog food... ugh. People seem to enjoy this kind of aroma looking at this and Asam Bock but it’s a bit off putting for me... The taste is malty again, dominated by a similar roasty coffeeish maltiness that sometimes ventures into dog food territory but not nearly as much as the doppelbock did. Light herbal, lightly acidic hop aftertaste. Didn’t like it at first but it grew on me later on. It’s a solid dunkel and I can respect it. GranvilleTim (466), Granville, Illinois, USA Oct 13, 2009 Clear dark reddish-brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, sweetness. Roasted malt, little nutty, sweetness, dry finish. Goes down easy. A good beer for under $2.50. Lacing minimal. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Sep 30, 2009 A Mes rate. Bottle from some random offy, drunk in the most random venue while watching my friend Jamie play a gig. Superb environment to squeeze a rate in. Utterly superb rich smoky malt aroma. Cakes and biscuits abound. REALLY sniffable. The flavour is almost as impressive. It’s held back just a little by the aggressive carbonation but it still good. Good complex layers or tobacco and leather with more rich malt sitting quietly in the background. Some coffee and chocolate in the finish round it off really well. I don’t know much about this brewery but what I know is great. German beers that manage to break out of the very standard mold that others seem so restricted by. Excellent. HoptimusPrime (17), Ascension Island Sep 5, 2009 A big malty beer. Now we’re talking! This is a great beer because it tastes like a beer should taste: beer. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 3, 2009 500ml bottle. Pours a darker but clear red dark brown with a whipped frothy light tan head. Aroma of malt dust and sweet raisin bread. Classic Weltenburger completeness, dry, touch roast, some bitterness at first, hint of acidity, subtle delicately roasted nuts, touch ashy, just the perfect hint of rich toffee/burnt sugar, finishing lightly bready, touch of raisin, exceptionally clean. Medium/light bodied, milky sensation, seemingly watery, light larger fizzy carbonation. A very very good dunkel. Easy drinking and very well balanced. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 22, 2009 Pours a clear dark amber, with a head that continues to grow long after the initial pour - aroma of toffee, hazelnut, roasted malts, dark bread - clean, smooth, medium-bodied - an initial toffee-ish sweetness is quickly replaced but a more burnt/caramelized sweetness, roasted nuts, moderate bitterness through the middle - some light raisin and date character on the back end - lingering dry cocoa flavor in the finish - quite a tasty dunkel. wkalle (110), Sweden Aug 18, 2009 Pours red brown with large long lasting and nicely lacing off-white head. Toasty milk chocolate and toffee in aroma. Caramell and burnt sugar in flavor with a nice lingering malty bitter aftertaste. rmussman (905), California, USA Jul 7, 2009 Sampled in Fussen. A pretty good brew. Drank nicely with a good amount of flavor. One of the better dunkels I have had. Pours dark with medium head. Goes down very smooth.
