stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Dec 21, 2003 Beautiful clear dark golden color. Fine tasting marzen, on the lighter side of the style. Karl Strauss in San Diego made a similar beer, though it's an ale, for this year's Christmas Ale(2003). Nice sweet malty flavor with an interesting buttery or butterscotch flavor that I liked.
downender (2528), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Oct 12, 2009 Bottle from Phoenix Fine Drinks, Gloucester. Deep copper with a big, frothy off-white head. Mlaty, cereal and red fruit aroma. Flavour of prunes, biscuity malts and caramel. Finish was dryish with a hint of roastiness. Good. neepsntatties (280), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 1, 2009 Tried a bottle of this for the first time tonight. Colour... orange-amber with a very thick, frothy head. Nose... malt and honey. Palate... very light carbonation, sweet malt, yeast, honey and toffee and rather marzen-like though not as, "robust". Decent beer, but certainly not a, "winter warmer". Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Aug 8, 2009 from beerangel.de - clear dark amber colour with a little slightly beige foam; notes of red fruits and chewy malts; sweet and medium-bodied, clean palate, slightly fruity and flowery finish - not bad at all OleR (2007), Oslo, Norway Aug 3, 2009 Bottle@Øl&Mat 09, Oslo. Deep copper colored body. Foamy offwhite head. Toasted malt aroma with a whiff of toffee. Medium sweet malt body. A slight acidity beneath. Light-bodied. Feels a bit diluted in the mouth. No hops detected. Dries up towards the finish. Very ordinary. KnutAlbert (3101), Oslo, Norway Jul 1, 2009 Bottle, Oslo Beer Festival.
Light, some malt, a hint of alcohol. Lightweights. A little yeasty palate. OK, but not very impressed. eManu (168), Brussels, Belgium Jun 27, 2009 Ha ha opening a winter beer in the summer. Pours a clear copper color with a white head. Aroma of roasted malts a dry fruits. Flavors of roasted malts and caramels, some smokey herbs. A little sweet spice finish. joeyplush (328), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2009 Sweet malt and honey aroma. Light amber to copper color and a thick tan head. Taste of sweet malt and honey, with some light spiciness. obguthr (984), Poquoson, Virginia, USA May 30, 2009 Robust aroma of toasted oats and barley, steeped in molasses. Dingy golden brown pour with a thick head and nice lacing. It tastes as it smells, very malty. Medium body, with a thinner, light grassy finish. Best when almost lukewarm. The label says malt liquor, but it bear no resemblance to the crap I’m used to seeing sold in grocery stores as malt liquor.Solid vienna and similar to a scotch ale.
