Cask (handpump) at the Shakespeares Head (JDW), Holborn, August 2009. Fairly pale for a bitter - gold rather than amber. Good condition. Some grassy hops in the aroma. Dry and fairly bitter on the palate. Not packed with flavour. Clean enough mouthfeel. OK but a bit nondescript really. - a fairly basic bitter.

Clear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, fruity, moderate hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, orange. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090803]

[cask at Back of Beyond, Reading] Rough as you like gutrot ale. Very bitter and earthy with overtones of musty straw. Struggled to drink even a third of a pint. Is this student homebrew designed as a brewery beer?
