A truly traditional bitter. Deep amber brown with a satisfyingly malty character. This popular beer won a silver medal at Oakwood Beer Festival in 2000.

Dark bitter with a weakly hopped aroma and a light toffee flavour. Overall a standard dry bitter.

Hand pulled at The Major Oak, Nottingham. Clear amber ale with a nice head. Really not much aroma - slight toffee malt. Bitter watery creamy taste with no duration. Poor.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Copper amber. Buttery malt aroma and taste. Someone said like Werthers Originals. Mid bitter finish. Tasty and pretty good.

3 Judges. Aroma is honey, apply, over ripe fruits, peachys. Taste is sweet apples, again overly ripe fruit, hints of bittering hops, leave s a bad taste in my mouth.

Cask (gravity dispense) at London Drinker Beer Festival (Friday session), March 2006. An unashamedly traditional, copper coloured, English style bitter with dry malt and earthy UK hops in evidence. A bit more body than many "ordinary" bitters but a touch less than many "bests". Nothing that really stands out but a solid bread and butter bitter..

(Cask at Market Porter, Borough, London, 1 Aug) Colour is amber with foamy head. Nose is malty and nutty. Taste is fruity, nutty with a nice hoppy bitterness in the finish. Citrussy and slightly earthy hop character. Dry, but rather short finish. Not really complex, but nice enough.

Sampled cask conditioned at Nynäshamn Real Ale Festival, Sweden.
Pale amber. Sulphury and ashy. Medium- to light body. The nice malt flavour is overshadowed by by the ashyness that lingers on all the way to the finish.
