COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Dark, smooth, deeply delicious and definitely moreish. This outstanding oatmeal stout has to be tasted to be fully understood. A medal winner at Oakwood in 2000, it achieves its satisfyingly malty flavour in part due to the roasted barley and Golding hops.
Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt, black malt, wheat malt, roasted barley, oatmel malt. Goldings hops.

Bottle. Pours inky black with small beige head. Sweet malty aroma, flavour strong roasted malts, fruit, liquorice. Mouthfeel positively chewy. Definitely takes a few swallows to appreciate the full flavour. Dry bitter finish without being astringent. Good stuff.

rich aroma - chocolatey & sweet/caramelly (but strangely savoury at the same time!), with a hint of jam?! Suprisingly refreshing, bitter enough, but not overwhelmingly so. Several layers of flavour. Dark, with a good head. Bitter but pleasant aftertaste.

Cask conitioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Black beer with big tan head. Rich and dark the beer is straight into coffee husk bitterness, with a long dry, thick mouthfeel. The beer has an astringency, bordering on the acidic within the body, giving a challenge to the tastebuds.Possibly not full enough, but a good beer.

Tasted 01/03/2006. 500ml bottle from Rumble’s, Wllington. Jet black, oily liquid. Topped with a rocky, hokey-pokey like, glistening tan head that becomes pillowy, then thins and laces up nicely. Mild aroma: chocolate, cereal, fruitcake and coffee, in that order. Big roast barley influence in the flavour, very little malt sweetness, quite dry and astringent throughout - actually took me by surprise. A red wine drinker’s beer, perhaps. Extremely long, and complex, tannic finish, which lingers for a good half hour. This beer is more woody than the Matakohe Kauri Museum. Ultra silky mouthfeel: very low carbonation, medium-heavy weight. Very solid stout that could do with a touch more sweetness up front, to make it spot on for me.
