Bottle from Rhythm & Booze Ripon. Pous almost black with virtually no head. Quite acidic at first with an almost citrus edge, before coffee coming through at the finish. to be fair this bottle was about 1 month after its best before, so it might not have been in the best condition.

Cask at the Prince of Wales, Highgate Village, London on 8th September 2013. Black with yellow to golden top and almost no lace. Rich caramel and roasty malt aromas. Roast malts and delicate, subtle savouries and smokes in-mouth, with some fruity notes. These become more prevalent in the finish, which ends with subtly bitter and herby notes around a malty core. Suprisingly light body, but engaging mouthfeel.

(Cask): Black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and a faint smell I couldnt put my finger on, possibly subdued hop aroma. Smooth, lovely tasting beer - roasted malt, chocolate covered coffee beans, a touch of saltiness like you get from a soy sauce. Really lovely beer.

Wentworth Oyster Stout 4.8%. Cask at The Anchor, Digbeth, Birmingham. Poured a dark mahogany with a glass hugging tan head. The aroma is of malt and peat. The flavour is medium bitter, spicy and with roasted malt and coffee. The palate is smooth and the bitterness lingers into the aftertaste. A very drinkable ale.

Cask conditioned handpump The Pub Leicester 07/03/13. A black beer with a tan coloured head. Freezing cold; really don’t know why this pub has gone so downhill recently. Slightly sweet salty and fishy. Light roasty malts. True to style and would have been far more enjoyable with better temperature control.
