Bottle from B&M; chestnut brown pour with a few brown bubbles for a head, caramel and dried fruit aroma, taste had caramel, soap, some biscuity malts, not much carbonation or xmas.

Bottled. Chestnut body. No head. Red fruit, malt, black malt, green apple (unwelcome aroma). Bitter with a bitter finish. Only paid £1 for this, so difficult to feel shortchanged.

Bottle at a ChrisO tasting - London. Pours clear, orange-gold with a foamy white head. Light toasty malts on the nose, faint leaves. Mild sweetness in the flavor, toasty dough. Kind of bland. Faint wood and leaves. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Boring finish, some leafy bitterness and toast. Drinkable just very pedestrian.

500ml Bottle: best before Nov 2014, poured into two half-pint tumblers on 15 Feb 2013 and shared with a mate. Pleasant reddy brown body, the biege head hung around awhile. Malts rule the aroma and taste: spiced up somewhat, it tries to be a ’winter warmer’ without the strength or depth of flavours. Nice enough, but lacks true class or craftmanship in its feel and presence: it is a fairly cheap brew, mostly for the cut price supermarket and lower end of the booze shop trade, so my comments should be taken with that in mind. OK more than great, it doesn’t pretent to be overly special and it isn’t: the shiney labelling is typical of the brewery and helps to make the beer stand out on the shelves, why not? Happy with the beer: but would have been upset if I’d paid a lot for it.

500ml bottle. Pours chestnut brown with a medium head. Aroma is spicy carrot cake and bread. Taste is gassy and bready malt to start. More co2 and a little spice on the finish.

Pours a reddy brown colour, head quickly dissapates, taste is full and malty with some spice

Aroma and flavour of toasty malts. It’s quite bitter and dry. A bit too light and thin though.

500ml bottle. Pours deep copper. Heavy malt aroma with not much else. Similarly heavy and toasty malt to taste with a good amount of smoke and coffee notes leading to a surprisingly sharp bitter finish. Better balanced with the bitterness than many dark malty ales.

Bottle from B&M drank at home, 24/12/12. Chestnut with a dissipating cream collar. Aniseed, sprouts, nutty malt aroma. Pleasant if unexciting with bitter walnut, digestive biscuit and aniseed-spicy English hop. Coffee-dunked butter biscuit hints. OK.

4.1% brown colour with a good head, it had a soapy aroma, it was dry, bitter, fizzy and had a burnt toast aftertaste. I was going to save this one for Christmas, thankfully I opened it by mistake, I have no idea who upset the snowman.
