UPDATED: MAR 10, 2013 On tap at West Flanders. A hearty and delicious porter. Nutty, smoky, and full-bodied. Aftertaste is a tad bitter and reminiscent of coffee.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On draft at the brewery with TheDude. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of liquid smoke, burnt wood. It smells like a campfire, but not in a romantic way. Flavor is charred wood and liquid smoke, some other generic sweetness. Blah mouthfeel. Finishes smokey? Nah.

Draft. Dark brown with a short tan head, quickly dying. Heavy ash / char / campfire wood smoke character some caustic-smelling burying most other malt and not showing much aroma hops. Yeasty and a bit lactic to me. Medium body and sweet with a generic dark cara malt cola-flavored chewiness. Flabby support from both malt and carbonation with a thin finish.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
At west flanders. Pours a dark brown with a half finger of fine tan head. Served a little cold. Aroma is roasted malt, light smoked malt, cocoa, sweet. Flavor roasted malt, dark malt, chocolate, slightly bitter finish. Not as smoky as I remember the last few times. Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, smooth texture. A decent porter. Cool that they imported smoked malt for this one. Not particularly bold or memorable, but enjoyable.

Poured on tap into a pint glass at the Pearl Street Mall brewery in Boulder, Co. Half a finger of dimpled head retreated quickly to leave minimal lacing. Nose was heavy chocolate and smokey wood. Taste was pleasantly bitter, smoky, slight hint of dried fruit sweetness. Quite smooth mouthfeel. Solid porter but nothing special.
