2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Maker: West Brewery, Glasgow, Scotland ***
Beer: West Hefeweizen (cask, at The Standing Order, Edinburgh) ***
Style: Hefeweizen (clo6udy wheat) ***i
ALC.VOL.: 5.2% ***
"In the style of a Bavarian wheat beer, our Hefeweizen is an authentic blend of wheat and barley malt, hopped carefully and left naturally unfiltered with a clean aroma of banana and clove and a satisfying zing on the palette, topped with crisp, white foam." (Brewery notes) ***
Colour: Hazy yellow, small (!) off-white head. ***
Nose: Mild lemon, clove, yeast. ***
Texture: Medium body, watery, moderate carbonation. ***
Taste: Banana, mild citrus, some spices. Not a lot but yeast and banana in the middle, yeast in the finish. Hardly any aftertaste. ***
Impressions: Characteristic but not especially memorable German style hefeweisse. A difficult style to create something really unique in, admittedly. This is refreshing, mildly fruity, sessionable.
