Big thanks to DocJ007 for sharing this one with us last night.

A - Pours mostly black with a nice one and a half finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small webs of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of vanilla, oak, cocoa, dark fruits, caramel, toffee, bit of coffee, oak, smokey dark roasted malt and the warm bourbon. A bit rough around the edges but still quite nice.

T - Starts off with a mix of sweetness; mainly the caramel, toffee, vanilla, cocoa and dark fruits; quickly being joined by the smokey dark malt, coffee, oak and the warming bourbon heat. Finish is smokey with some light sweetness, combining with the bourbon booze burn to linger long after the finish.

M - Big body with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel, could use a little more carbonation tho. Much like the other version the 11% is hidden quite well.

O - I enjoyed this one. It has most of the flavors I love in a stout and the bourbon isn’t over the top. It has some rough edges that should round out with a bit more time in the bottle. Not as good as the AB version but still quite good.

A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of peated smoke, roasted malt, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of peated smoke, roasted malt, and chocolate, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Pours an opaque black on tap with thin wispy tan brown head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of big bourbon barrel sweetness over hints of chocolate, coffee, and a bit of metallic back end. Taste follows, metallic notes hidden by big amounts of booze. Thick and slick on the tongue, really good stuff.

This will be my first beer I’ve had since fat Tuesday. I had given up beer, my most favorite past time, for Lent. But, anything given up for Lent should be an actual sacrifice. I had purchased this beer approximately a month ago, but I dropped it getting out of the car and it broke all over my garage floor. The bottle shop owner was a nice enough person to sell me the one she had stashed away for herself. The rest of that story is that she had already had two bottles by that time, so she wasn’t being that magnanimous. J/K, Abbie. ;-) It was a kind gesture, indeed! The beer pours an extremely dark brown. It’s a thick pour. A beautiful, perfectly tall head. I nearly dumped the beer into the glass, but the head never got too tall. It retains very well. Creamy, caramelized brown color. Sexy beer. Rich dark roast aroma just ahead of cherry, sorghum, coffee, and charred wood. Viscous. As chewy a beer as I’ve ever had. Melon rind, chocolate syrup, faint cherry, toffee, and sorghum. Sweet, but balanced well by salty smokiness at the finish. I was so excited to finally try another impy stout from Westbrook after having Mexican Cake a few years ago.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2016 22 oz bottle received in trade from Kale. Allowed to warm to an initial temperature of about 50, then served in a Belgian snifter. The opaque black liquid looks rich and thick, which is not misleading. The aroma is complex and seemingly variable. It carries notes of well baked cookies, coffee, bourbon, faint wood, dark bread, and dark fruits. These all reappear in the flavor which, while excellent, is not quite as appealing as the aroma. Very full bodied, viscous and smooth, with light carbonation and well hidden alcohol. O: Exceptional.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours Zhukov-black with a small, creamy, beige head. Decent retention. The roasty aroma features a lavish and bold intermingling of charcoal, fudge, tobacco and bourbon. Full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. The flavor is a roasty-sweet mélange of chocolate crème, fudge, charcoal, pouch tobacco and molasses. Roasted, singed brownie finish with a light splash of tawny port. I wonder if this is the base beer for Mexican Cake. Big-time thanks to ctipping for popping the top on this world-class brew!
