COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The “Old Time” series is a collaboration with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The base beer (a Belgian-style strong dark ale) for all four Old Times was originally brewed in July 2011, then aged in a variety of oak barrels, some with and some without a blend of brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.

Brandy Old Time was aged for 18 months in three Laird’s apple brandy barrels without any wild yeast/brewing bacteria.

From the October 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black - with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was apple brandy, tart apples and apple juice. The flavor was sweet apple butter, brandy, a boozy presence that worked and apple cider. Very long sweet boozy apple butter finish. Thick and full body. Amazing!!

Pour from bottle at What the Funk!? 2014. Appearance is murky brown pour with no head. Big raisins, figs, plums, light oak, caramel, toffee and brown sugar in the aroma. Taste is sweet prunes, dates, brandy, bourbon, wood, caramelized sugar, and toffee. Very very sweet. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Ok, but nothing compared to all the other offerings of this festival.

Bottle. This was a nice change from all the sours we had this night. Even though it does have wild bacteria, the brandy barrel kinda takes over this one which is not a bad thing. I love apple brandy. One of my favorite liquors hands down. Tasty taste!

Bottle courtesy of my SC buddy. Cheers, my friend! Pours a hazy brown-orange with a small white head. Nose is big apple brandy, some wood, some fudge, some fruit component, some overripe fruit, booze, and some more brandy. Flavor is a nice blend of brandy, sweet malt, fruit, yeast, and a chocolate component as well. Boozy and brandy-forward, but enjoyable as hell; one of the best beers I have had from Westbrook.

Bottle thanks to Icehawk ! Pours a deep caramel brown color with a thin layer of eggshell foam. The nose is sweet boozy caramel, vanilla, cola, baked apple, touches of chocolate and a bit of earth barrel character. The palate follows the nose nicely with very smooth sweet dark fruit, dates, chocolate, flat cola and caramel. Hints of earthy complexity, licorice, moss and leather. Yum... could be amazing with more carbonation.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. It’s a massive head on this little fellow. Deep dark cloudy plumaged in color and the head is heavy lacing, lasting and beige in color. The nose on this has something I really can dig. A sweet fudge like sweetness with dark dried fruits, old cellar, lots of fireworks and gunpowder, sweet licorice and even a trace of earth. Mmhhh.. Lovely! The same goes for the taste. It’s really sweet this! Almost a bit to much. Loaded with sherry and, yeah, brandy it’s giving off a strong powerful sweetness on my tongue. There is also something I the background that’s reminding me of ripe berries. Really good in small quantities. A full bottle? Perhaps a bit on the heavy side in one setting, but I really like this. 03.05.2013
