COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Covert Hops is a crafty ale. Its stealthy dark appearance belies a light body and beguiling hop aroma from the loads of herbal, piney hops (4+ lbs per barrel to be exact) that melds exceedingly well with its deliciously devious roasty flavor.

Bottle, from the Bottle Shop - Bermondsey, split with Chris and Ruth 07/09/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a big khaki covering. Nose is floral hop, bitter citric, touch of pine, toffee, light roast, spice, grapefruit. Taste comprises earthy cocoa, toffee fudge, earthy bitter hop load, pine, spice, dark chocolate. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation - over cooked, semi drying close with a bitter rinse. Decent CDA but loses a couple of marks for the carbonation level.

From Growler at the Pig. Pours black with a thin tan head that never left. Toasted aroma with coffee, hops, dark fruit and spice. Taste followed and was hard to place all the tastes. Great sharing beer!

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours an opaque black with an off-white head and lacings. Quite bitter with a light sweetness. Aromas of fresh coffee beans and roasted malts. The hops are kinda mellow, but you can still make out hoppy hints of resin, spruce and grape fruit. Medium to full bodied. Dry finish with more hops.

Huge thick, tan head - a gusher. slowly it dissipated and the eventual discovery of the dark brown beer looked good. A fairly big pine nose came up along with rosemary/lavender, dried leaves, roasted malt and espresso. Light body body that is both smooth and crisp. Dark roasted flavor is the base - think french roast/espresso. Along with the big hops and you’ve got a fairly dry/bitter beer. A sipping beer, for sure and if you enjoy dark roasted bitternes it’s your game, then you’ll love this. Well made, but not really my style.

Clear very dark purple beer, very solid huge frothy beige to brown head, very stable, rocky, adhesive. Aroma: lots of citrus, exotic fruits, ripe fruits, somewhat sugary, caramel, pretty sourish, lemony, grassy. Mf: lots of carbon, a bit too much actually, medium to full body. Taste: mocha, citrus fruits, sour touch, very fruity, nice bitter hops, piny, exotic fruits. Aftertaste: mocha, bit sourish, bitter hops, fruity, honey, coffee. Really good beer!

Bottle purchased from Craft Beer Co, Brighton, back in August and shared around this Christmas. Black with a very large, bubbly head that sticks around. Sweetened, toasted, complex aroma of coffee, very hoppy, perhaps some liquorice and wood fire. Very bitter, dry, smoked wood taste. Heavy - very much a sipping beer. Difficult to pick out all the flavours - some liquorice, some cocoa, mostly bitter malt. Very good but lacking the balance or smooth mouthfeel to make it exceptional.
