COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Helmet is a German-style black lager (or Schwarzbier) brewed with 10% malted rye. Chocolate and Carafa malts give this beer its dark color and ludicrously smooth, roasty flavor. May the Schwarz be with you!

On tap at Grapevine. Pours out a dark brown color with a tan head on it. Smell is malty and has a good bit of chocolate in it. From the smell I would expect it to be very thick. It is not; very light and easy to drink. High carbonation, really quality schwarzbier and the first of this brewer for me.

Mini-growler from the Piggly Wiggly, North Charleston. Nice dark brown pour, very rich carbonation with mild chalky sediment. Chocolate malts in the nose with an understated roastiness and mild bitter notes. Medium bodied, fairly lively without being overdone. Bitter and grassy in places without losing the density and richness of the chocolate character, and sharp in the finish where it needs to be. Well done overall, and nicely tasty.

12/11/13. 22oz bottle from Five Points. Deep brown pour, almost black, with a nice khaki head that sticks. Toasty aroma, malty, biscuit and caramel, with a bit of roast, coffee, and chocolate. Nice flavor, smooth maltiness that is more chocolate forward than the aroma led on, a hint of fruitiness, plenty of roast, some ash, lingering biscuit and chocolate. Tasty!

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours very dark brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted and chocolate malts, some light rye, a little dough and pale malts, and some light hops. Flavor the same with a decent blend of everything. Average texture. A good beer for the style.

Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Film of tan head. Chocolate malt. Roast grain. Hint of spice. A little vanilla. Taste is roast dry. A little dark chocolate sweetness. Smooth, fairly rich palate. Finish is lager yeast dry, with a little roast bitterness. Wasn’t sure at first, but I warmed to this one. Overall score marked down due the top dollar price tag...
