The “Old Time” series is a collaboration with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The base beer (a Belgian-style strong dark ale) for all four Old Times was originally brewed in July 2011, then aged in a variety of oak barrels, some with and some without a blend of brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.

Funky Old Time was aged for 18 months in two American oak red wine barrels with wild yeast/brewing bacteria.

Poured an amber red color with aromas of wet wood, sour cherries, light grapes and some light funk. Flavors were a mixture of light funky wine with some cherry notes. I really dug this bottle glad I got to share this with a couple people.

Draught @ CBC2013. Pours cloudy wooden brown with a small frothy brownish beige head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and sour with sweet dark bread, red wine vinegar, raisins, prunes, sour cherries, charred wood, roasted nuts and hints of lemon zest. Taste is swour and slightly fruity with sweet dark bread, sour cherries, raisins, prunes, dates, red wine vinegar, moist wood and hints of roasted caramelized nuts. Mouthfeel is round, smooth, tart, dry and medium to full bodied. Finish is sour and fruity tart with dark bread, sour cherries, dates, figs, raisins, red wine vingar, lemon zest and hints of biscuits and nuts. Tasty...

Sample from tap, CBC 2013. Amber colour with a reddish hue, small, white head. Fruity aroma with tart, dark berries, hay, caramel malts, barrel and citrus-floral hops. Taste is light sour. Medium body, slick texture. Finishes tart, vinous and a good amount of caramel malts. Good sour.

Pours a rusty caramel color with no visible bubbles... still in fact. The nose is a mixture of oxidized caramel, toffee and layers of sour dark fruits, horsehair and vinegar. The palate follows the nose with a weird contrast between sweet old ale notes and acidic dark fruit and a long vinous finish. The two layers never seem to harmonize quite right making for a beer that has two good parts that don’t come together very well.
