COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Over a year ago, the guys at CBX worked on a couple of collaboration beers with Westbrook. One of the beers, Citrus Ninja Exchange, was an immediate release and has since been brewed again. The other, a strong, dark, sour monster, was tucked away in barrels with wild yeasts and bacteria. That beer, dubbed "Old Time" after everyone’s favorite store manager, Brandon Plyler, is now seeing the light of day. A variety of barrels were used for aging, so you’ll see a handful of versions released, each with a different name. Grumpy Old Time spent the last year in Laird’s Apple Brandy barrels getting sour.

Finally opened this after holding on to it for the right person to share it with. Nice aroma with lots of earth and wood. Light on the sour specturm Good dark fruits and cherry. Pretty subtle on the palate. Lightly sour but still good and relatively complex. The 11% is definitely hidden.

Bottle, sent to me by b3shine (thanks Beau!), and shared at RBAG 2014. Medium-to-dark brown, sour profile is balanced by caramel malts, lovely cherry and chocolate notes. A nice malty sour in the Flemmish tradition, and not a hint of the 11% ABV! Delicious!

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Aroma of brandy barrels and oak, some sourness and light funky notes, dark malts, dark fruits, some spices, hints of alcohol, and light vanilla notes. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Average texture. A solid sour beer but could be better.

Lame, stumpy lil head, some ugly ass color, some lace. Murky, brown color. One ugly ass brew.Nose was a bit of pooh and fruit, slight wood, booze and spices. Body was medium, fairly dead carbonation, boring palate. Slight cherry flavors, musty, earthy, boozy, how can you not see the booze! An 11% Sour? WTF? Tastes of dung and stenchy vinous notes. Too many barrels goin on here. Just rediculous. Props to my brother Bill for hookin me up with this fuckin brew. Thanks Bill!

Bottle - Sour cherry, brown malts and wood notes. Murky brown with a thin head. Tart toasted malts and a bit of an acidic finish. Nice and sour malty finish.

Bottle share at RBAG. Dark muddy brown pour, with minimal white head. Aroma is sour funk, lots of vinous, oak, leather, nice. Taste is light carbonation, sour funk, lots of wine like character, with a funky finish.

Bottle shared by sloth. Pour was reddish murky brown, weak head and lacing per the brune style this was like. Aroma of poopie, tart cherries, apples, and oak, a bit offensive in the poopie area. The flavor was solid, however, tart cherries, apples, vanilla and some biscuits too, even some lingering sweetness. Mouthfeel was full and mild, no alcohol heat at all. I dug this.

Botle. Pours amber brown with a beige head. Big sweet malts, moderate tartness, rich brandy boozy notes, with a fresh fruity base. A bit too rich and sweet.

Bottle split at the Manny G tasting, thanks again to Manny for more Westbrook goodness, 28/06/14. Murky chestnut brown with a moderate beige swirl. Nose carries light plastic notes, tangy dark fruit peel, apple brandy waftings, spice, home brew cider. Taste comprises bitter dark fruit rinds, dry rot, acidic notes, apple core, light brandy effect, tarte fruit scones, dank wood and dirt. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, acidic wash in the close - light throat scrape. Decent enough sour/wild but perhaps lacks a little depth given its ABV!

Bottle thanks to Manny G. It pours deep brown with minimal head. The nose is earthy, brown bread, light spice, mild acidity, sherbet, vanilla, red grape and vinegar. The taste is crisp, tangy, red berry, sherbet, red currant, vinegar, wood, damp leaf, some alcohol and earth with a dry finish. Medium+ body and soft carbonation. Decent, but perhaps a touch acidic.
