Over a year ago, the guys at CBX worked on a couple of collaboration beers with Westbrook. One of the beers, Citrus Ninja Exchange, was an immediate release and has since been brewed again. The other, a strong, dark, sour monster, was tucked away in barrels with wild yeasts and bacteria. That beer, dubbed "Old Time" after everyone’s favorite store manager, Brandon Plyler, is now seeing the light of day. A variety of barrels were used for aging, so you’ll see a handful of versions released, each with a different name. Grumpy Old Time spent the last year in Laird’s Apple Brandy barrels getting sour.

Pour from bottle at What the Funk!? 2014. Appearance is murky caramel with absolutely no head. Tannic, oak, vinous, peach skin, caramelly, toffee, and lemony aroma. Taste is pungent orange juice, citrus, light lactic, somewhat salty, vanilla, urine, and red wine vinegar with a huge sour finish. Slick mouthfeel soft carbonation. Alright.

Mahogany hue, mostly translucent. Silky tan-red lace on the surface; zero head otherwise.

Way low carb :D. Soured grain & cherries bump up against the apple brandy barrel. Plenty of pucker; fortunately doesn't turn Tussin-y. Dat barrel = good stuff.

Bottle. Aroma is sour apple, oak, candy sugar, molasses, raisins, and booze. Appearance is very dark brown with almost no head. Taste is prunes, sour apple, molasses, figs, lactobacillius, candy sugar, and oak. Medium body with very low carbonation. Overall a very good beer with a lot of flavors that work together.

Botlte shared at RRBS. Thanks. This was nice. Cloudy golden with a small fizzy white head. Apple brandy definitely comes thru but the base sour holds its own as well. Fairly dry with a nice lactic finish.

22 ounce bottle poured into a mini-snifter. Pours a dark amber to copper with no head. Aroma has tart notes of apple cider and wood. There is a fruity berry sweetness along with granny smith apples. Medium body and carbonation.

Pretty hazy memories on this brew. Largely drafting off Westmeister’s recollection. This brew was a just a touch too pricey for me. Bottle - Ale Yeah! - Decatur, GA

Bottle shared at Proof (by Tim and Rachel I think...). Tasty green apple tannic. Medium tart. Seemed good but wore little thin. Bit of nail polish vibe. Vinegar, wood, lemon. 7.0
