3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Pawola22 (3107) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 10, 2013
On tap at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Pours a clear, deep gold colored body with an inch thick, dense and creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is bitter kumquats and oranges with some sweet pink grapefruits and a medium sweet caramel malt backing. Some resins, pines, and florals as well. Flavor is similar. Bitter citrus peels with a light sweetness and a good amount of resins. Florals, pines, and a nice caramel backing. Finishes dry and moderately bitter with some resiny kumquats and a nice caramel note. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a really nice IPA. Very unique citrus element and well balanced with a nice caramel backing. Great beer.

Poured a slightly hazy orange/yellow with a frothy white head. Aroma of floral and citrus hops, very fresh. Medium, lively body, flavour of pine, grapefruit and muted malt undertones with a bitter, astringent end. Excellent for the style.

Whole Foods, Bowery 12oz can ($3): Pours copper with a white head. Aroma is resin, pine, grapefruit. Taste is much the same. Moderate amount of bitterness. Some astringency. Easily drinkable with a proper body and mouth feel. Pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 chinchill (586) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 7, 2013
An East Coast/West Coast showdown tonight, with a Westbrook IPA (12 oz can; date stamp shows it was canned only 3 weeks ago) up against Green Flash Hop Head Red (12 oz bottle; marketed as a “red IPA”; also very fresh according to date stamp). Perhaps giving the underdog a slight advantage, I start with the Westbrook. The Westbrook pours an attractive, hazy, orange-amber with a bone-colored head that has moderate retention and size. Lacing is quite nice for an IPA.
Aroma: IPA credentials are intact with the powerful aroma of floral, herbal and citrus hops, and a hint of spruce. Some malt presence too, giving it a nice baked bread background.
T: A rich floral-piney-citrus hop mix. The claimed IBU of 60 seems right; despite the aroma and hop flavor, this is not overly bitter.
M: Medium body with soft but medium-high carbonation; lively but not harsh; dry finish.
O: A solid West Coast style American IPA with a mix of floral, piney and citrus elements. Clearly more complex and appealing than the Green Flash. Recommended.

First foray with this brewery and a pretty solid introduction. Can from Green’s. Pours a hazy orange with a nice white head. Herbal grapefruit pungent aroma hits you square in the nose. Malt body is solid but has a little too much punch to make this my go to sessionable ipa but it is still solid. Finish has much of the grapefruit citrus with a resiny pine finish that lasts a while.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 PorterPounder (4611) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Augusta, Ga - Rooster’s Beak Restaurant - 12 oz bottle. Pours a sparkling medium copper pour with a sticky eggshell white head - plenty of sticky lacing. Fresh, resiny, spruce-like aromam touch of mint. Tangy flavor with plenty of bitter citrusy hop goodness, some minty sweetness, a hint of nectarine-like fruitiness. Mouthfeel is crisp, just thick enough. Pretty solid - first from this brewer - like what I see.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2013 12oz can. Looks amber. Aroma of citrusy hops, some pale malts, a little earthiness, and hints of dough/spice. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty good IPA.

Gold pour, white head. What a nice vibrant, fresh IPA. Citrus hops, some nice grassiness. Juicy and bitter but balanced. Delicious.
