The Last Tasting at Bruce’s palatial pad. Opaque dark black - brown beer with a good pale tan heaThanks to Paulio for this beast. Palate is smooth and light and a little airy. Good dark chocolate here with just a touch of coconut. Spicy apple brandy that blends well with the dark malt and the chilli. Finishes smooth and soft with a light chilli linger. Lovely.

Bottle via trade, shared at Bruce’s. It pours jet black with a small tan head. The nose is rich roast, spice, sweet calvados, fudge, toffee, treacle, rocky road, jam, toast, apple and pear. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, chocolate cake, sweet apple, pear drops, melon, decent bitterness, mild chilli, chocolate, dark fruit and charred wood with a dry, spicy finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Very nice balance indeed. Rich and indulgent, yet somehow very drinkable.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London. Another big thanks to Paul for this one. Pours thick black with a creamy, deep beige head. Nose of dark chocolate, coconut, a bit of vanilla. Medium to big sweet flavor with decent chili pepper heat, more rich chocolate and coconut, soft burnt wood, raisins. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Warming finish, some lingering chili heat, definitely some Mounds bar, a bit of vanilla toffee. Superlative stuff.

Pours pitch black with a small rim of tanned head. Aroma is sweet ashy roasted malts vanilla boozy. Flavor is sweet boozy a bit acidy hot fruity and a bit metallic.

Bottle, 08/20/2013. Pours thick black, thin dark tan head fades to elaborate swirls on the surface, legs of lacing left behind. Aroma is fantastic- apple brandy, cinnamon vanilla graham cracker, brown sugar, smooth chocolate and rich coffee. Taste is chocolate, chili heat, vanilla and cinnamon, sweet brandy barrel notes lingering. Thick body, creamy and chewy. Great.

Thanks to catatlatlanta for hooking us up; jrob21/eriteusink a pleasure; Mex Cake Set. Pours as one would expect thick black, thinner mocha head. Notes that distinguish it from the original would be a syrupy sweetness that lingers that actually takes away from the the base. Still massiviely complex with heat, sweet, definite apple brandy sweetness, cabinet spice (cinnamon/vanilla extract). Palate delivers as the best barrel aged brews should; thick and more thick solid. Great, but as complex and nice at it is I would rank it the least awesome out of the 3.

Bottle shared by Sean. Thanks, dude! Pours a rich deep blackish opaque pour, dark with brownish edges and bottom. A frothy tannish head atop dies to a film, laces small. Aromas pronounce big Apple Brandy barrel, oak meets spice, some vanilla and cinnamon, roast and toast. Some toffee, vanilla, and gentle toasty malts. Well barreled. Initial is sweeter apple brandy, gentle spirit, oak, and vanilla. Touches of toffee, toast, and roast. Middle shows more vanilla, spice, and cinnamon. Mellow pepper starts to grow. Toasty, roasty, and touches of spice. Backend is more apple brandy, toffee, and some slick qualities. Some vanilla, spice, thicker slick backend shows rich apple brandy elements. Easily the best barrel here. Flavors are locked on, a bit spicy peppery as we finish. Some more fruit, toast and toast, cocoa. More lingering pepper and cinnamon than ther other, perhaps due to the barrel. Very nice.

Appearance: Opaque black with short lasting dark brown head
Aroma: Intense cocoa... pretty much same as Cab version
Taste: Chocolate, apples
Palate: Again, extremely thick/heavy mouthfeel, slightly more so than the Cab. No pepper heat on this one.
Overall: The apple brandy add to an already extremely sweet beer, making this dessert wine sweet. The apple flavor is more subtle, but there. Get a friend or two to share your bottle with ’cause this sucker is BIG.
