3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
19th September 2013
The Last Tasting at Bruce’s palatial pad. Opaque dark black - brown beer with a good darkish tan head. Palate is smooth and light and a little airy. Good creamy dark malt with a nice touch of smooth dark chocolate. Melloe red wine tang and fruits. A light touch of coconut (nowhere near as much as the JD BA). Nice red berries on the finish. The chilli dominates more here and slightly outmuscles the red wine. Otherwise very good indeed.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared by Samantha. Black in color with a short lived mocha head. Lots of wine on the nose. Cocoa powder, roasted malt, chili, spice, oak, and a subtle tartness of berries. Nice roasted malt and cocoa flavors. Red wine, oak, spice, and chili, too. Slight berry flavor and tartness on the finish.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at Bruce’s in London - big thanks to Sr. Paulo. Pours thick and heavy with a large, lasting macchiato cap. The aroma has dark chocolate, dark berries, touches of coconut. Medium sweet flavor with slight pepper sting, a bit of dry wood, milky chocolate, oaky red wine barrel, raspberry. Medium to full bodied with massaging carbonation. Warming finish of both pepper and heat, slight black pepper, a bit of dry wood, light tannic character, oak, dried berries. Excellent.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Big bold black pour, brown head. Damn this was my favorite of the 3 BA versions. Chili, chocolate, perfect amounts of vinous notes, grapes, vanilla, woody flavors. Smooth and balanced. This is a beauty.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
651mL thanks to NoSignsOfPain and Jer. Deep near black pour with low carbonation, small tan foam with spotty lacing. Nose is really fantastic: fresh raspberry, mild dark chocolate, really melds nicely into a raspberry dark chocolate mousse dessert, flashes of cinnamon and pepper. Taste is mildly tart, big chili pepper heat. Lactic, salty with balancing hops. Neutral sugar content. Really nice.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Courtesy of JBoan, thanks! The bottle pours with a dark mahogany colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma is straight up coconut and chocolate cake as well as a mild degree of earthy chili vegetable meat. Smells of pure yum. The taste is rich and smooth and balanced and yummers. It delivers dark roasted malts, chocolate notes, coconut and then smooth chili meat to go along with a moderate tasty chili pepper spice warming. Wow! Love it.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle via trade, shared at Bruce’s place. It pours opaque black with a medium tan head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, big red-wine character, chocolate gateaux, red grape skin, tannins, vanilla, fudge, coconut and jam. The taste is rich roast, toast, rich red wine, grape skin, tannins, jammy dark fruit, berry, some acidity, chilli heat, vinous, dull tartness, oak and good alcohol bite with a rich, roasty finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. I am impressed how much wine character comes though in this beer. Very different than the Jack Daniels version, yet also very impressive. Delicious.
