Sweet Christ, this is what any pepper beer wants to be. Honestly, this is a beer.

22 oz bottle given to me by Kenny at 3 Floyds, many thanks my friend! Pours a deep viscous black with light barely passing as black cherry red on the rim only. Aroma is complex - huge roast and chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla and big habanero notes. Flavor is roasted malts and bitter chocolate, coffee bitterness, and a warming alcohol note, though alcohol isn’t overwhelming. Full bodied, silky mouthfeel, active carbonation. Delicious.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sample at Tap & Mallet in Rochester. Brownish-black pour with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and peppers. Full-bodied with flavors of chocolate malt, habanero and oaky vanilla. Slight sweet spice in the background. The finish is mildly peppery with a dark chocolate and charred malt aftertaste. Not at all over the top which is a plus, good beer all around.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014 Bottle; Pour is murky dark brown / black with a prototypical khaki head into this glass. It retains fairly well, with modest lacing presence into this glass. The nose is bittering hops (pine), with heavy cocoa nibs and chocolate cake presence. There is clear cinnamon and light vanilla notes here - but the habanero is barely visible, so to speak. Its just a hint of vegetable - The flavor profile reveals a more malt dominant piece, but I was expecting something more cigar city, and got something more balanced and subdued. I suppose that’s both bad and good, because I find cigar city to be masters at malt driven brews. Cocoa nibs move to more pine driven hop notes - I found brown sugar and cinnamon presence, which moves to a fairly thick mouthfeel and a nice, overall imperial - light vanilla and the habanero dissapoints. They emphasize a quick sampling of it but I feel like 3 months should do the trick - I think I was expecting more out of this one.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
’14 bottle from westmeister-thanks, West for this long time want! Deep black viscous pour with thick coffee crema colored head. Swear this smells just like a rich piece of dark chocolate cake. Taste is again dark chocolate cake on initial sips, with some darker bitter malts and very light ashiness showing through as it warms. Noticeable heat from the chiles on the finish makes this a sipper and something to take your time with. Only beef would be the release date as I imagine this is probably best fresh and hard to look an impy in the eye in the summer.

Bottle (’14 vintage). Dark brown pour with a chocolate head. Cinnamon, peppers, and cacao bouquet. Lots of cinnamon up front with smooth caramel and chocolate notes that give way to the heat from the chills. Dark roasted malt undercurrents. Good body and mouthfeel. One of the better Huny clones.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by a friend. Black pour with a thick brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, pepper and berry. Malty and chocolatey flavor with cinnamon and chilies before a vanilla and chocolate finish. Had lots of peppered and spiced stouts before, but this one was just different. Very tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Taster at Zeebra II.
Pours pitch black with a good sized creamy head, thick too, dark brown in colour. Good retention on my taster. Light lacing on the glass.
Aroma has plenty of coffee, chilli peppers, a bit of alcohol after a deep sniffing. Not very complex, but surely pleasant.
On the taste there is light chocolate and coffee, quickly being replaced by the chili peppers and their light burning, not so much on the tongue as on the back of the throat. Moderate sweet all in all, with the chocolate returning on the aftertaste to accompany the chillies.well hidden alcohol.
Full body, low carbonation but it really doesn’t need more. Smooth on the palate.
Overall quite good, nice sipper mainly because of the chillies.

22 oz. bottle shared by jmborggren. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, cinnamon, peppery spice, vanilla, caramel, this is up to the same standards as the other beers out there with cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa, etc. Good mouthfeel and body, I would love to try the variations.
