COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Happy birthday to us! To celebrate our first year as a brewery we brewed a serious imperial stout and aged it on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero peppers. This is the first offering in our annual Anniversary series. Here’s to many more!

22 oz. bottle. I got it from a trade, but can’t remember from whom. Probably that dipass Homer321. Or someone else. Now I feel bad. Anyway, glad I finally got around to this one. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a small brown head that settles into a ring. Lovely looking, as expected. Notes of cocoa nibs, roasted malts, toasted sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, earth, and very mild habanero on the nose. The flavor has a bit too much of a baker’s chocolate thing going on for my liking, and the bitter intensity overpowers the other notes (cocoa nibs, vanilla, cinnamon) to a degree before giving way to habanero at the end. Medium-bodied, with an earthy, roasty, bitter, spicy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Glad I have four barrel-aged variants to try next to this, because I think they’d improve upon the base. I prefer it to Bomb but it’s nowhere near the level of Abraxas.

650ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours pitch black with a quick fading brown head. Aroma is cocoa, chilies, roasted malt and vanilla. Taste is medium sweet and quite spicy. Cinnamon is clearly present. Full bodied but on the on the thin side still. Texture is a bit oily, soft carbonation. Finish is spicy, cinnamon, chocolate, coffeee and vanilla.

Bottle split a few ways. ’13 vintage cellared in the rot box. Pitch black pour with a small tan head. Nose has lots of milk chocolate, some vanilla, light roast and some ash. Taste is super smooth, more chocolate, cocoa powder, vanilla fudge and some roast. Light chili burn in the finish.

Pours dark brown with a huge foamy mocha head that recedes to a brown lacing around the circumference. Aroma is dark roast malts, dark coffee, raisins and dates. Taste is sweet vanilla at first, followed by a mellow coffee bitterness then a hot chilli sharpness and a long spicy jalapeno finish. Feck. This was an experience. Awesome!

Thanks to Kevin and Matt for providing the bottle. ’13 vintage. Pours a completely black color, with a decent beige, stable head. The aromas are all about cinnamon, earthy bakers chocolate and hints of slightly wooden vanilla, with roasted malts. Not particular sweet on the nose, but very intriguing, due to its wonderful complexity. Has a distinct, coffee infused malt foundation, joined by a load of slightly earthen cinnamon. Bakers chocolate adds to the humble wooden malts, getting topped of by toffee and syrup. The brew then turns into a sweeter, slightly sticky direction, due to molasses and a metallic, hot alcohol peak, intruduced by the lively carbonation. The brew is, despite its entwined, sublime cinnamon-chocolate sweetness, heavily hopped, creating a decent antithesis, forming its full body. It is pleasantly balanced, providing a smooth drinking, outstanding complexity. It finishes with burning hot, peppery chilies, acting as the perfect addition to the rich chocolate taste, challenging the tastebuds, as this beer is evolving in taste from the beginning till its very end.

I really don’t get the spicy stout thing. And this is a fine example as to why I don’t. I love cake, and I love peppers. I just don’t like them together. The combination is odd and the spiciness really threw me off.
