icehawk (834) - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA - OCT 6, 2013
Bottle
Aroma: Huge sweet chocolate dessert, wood, hints of pepper spice and vanilla
Appearance: Pitch black with dirty brown head
Taste: Semi-sweet chocolate, peppery heat, alcohol, vanilla
Palate: Warm pepper hits the mouth and combined with the alcohol gives a numbing sensation. Full mouthfeel, a bit chewy.
Overall: Excellent, dessert in a bottle. Nicely integrated and extremely smooth finish with the peppers adding in a good amount of heat. Out of all 3 BA varietals the pepper heat seems the most apparent in this one.

A nice mean black color with a brown head. I get the Jack flavors right up front, charred wood, vanilla, booze, chili, chocolate, toasted malt. Nice stuff. A bit over the top but nice.

The Last Tasting at Bruce’s palatial pad. Thanks to Paulio for this treat. Opaque dark black-brown beer, good tan head. Really nice barrel aged - chocolate nose. Palate is smooth, light and slightly airy. Gorgeous ’Bounty Bar’ chocolate and coconut. A mix of both the milk and dark chocolate versions. Dark malt tang and lovely mellow bourbon. Dark malt cream and a light touch of dark fruits that gradually resolve in to mostly cherry and blackcurrant. The chilli is there from the start but slowly builds to a mellow heat. Light finish with a medium chilli linger. Superb!

Bottle shared at Bruce’s, huge thanks to Paulo for liberating this baby, 19/09/13. Pitch black with a thin dirty tan head that clears to a swirl atop the glass. Nose is dark roast malts, coconut shavings, brown sugar, dark toffee fudge, earthy cocoa notes, bourbon soaked wood. Taste comprises sweet bourbon notes, light cocoa, molasses, peppery, sugars, light spice, dark toffee fudge. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light booze in the finish. Great BA impy, easy drinking, balanced and the alcohol is well integrated.

Bottle via trade, shared at Bruce’s place. It pours jet black with a medium tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, tiffin cake, vanilla, spice, wood, mild acidity, green banana, chocolate cake and bounty bar. The taste is rich roast, bounty bar, chilli heat, chocolate, alcohol warmth, mild acidity, coconut, vanilla, fudge and toffee with a roasty, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Oily, big, rich and indulgent. The balance is incredible. A great melange of flavours. Delicious!

Bottle at Bruce’s in London - massive thanks to Paul for this guy. Pours black and thick like motor oil with a thick, tight brown cream head. Smells great, lots of rich chocolate, coconut, hints of torched wood. Medium to big sweet flavor with oily dark chocolate, moderate chili pepper, some slick coconut. Full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Mellow warmth on the finish, restrained peppery heat, a bit of toffee and coconut, slightly syrupy chocolate. Rich, dynamic, balanced - wonderful beer.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2013 Thanks to catatlatlanta for hooking us up; jrob21/eriteusink a pleasure; Mex Cake Set. Pours as one would expect thick black, thinner mocha head. Notes that distinguish it from the original and the rest of the set would be that the bourbon sweetness perfectly complements the heat and sweet of the base. I mean vanilla/bourbon sweetness is just super nice. Coffee really takes a back seat in this the barrel aged versions. Highest rating to date and I think I am not getting caught in the hype train at all. Just an awesome and improved version to the original awesome brew. I would rank it the best treatment out of the 3.

Bottle shared by Sean. Thanks, dude. Pours a deep blackish hue, opaque and dark with a gentle brownish froithy head. Dies to a filmy ring, laces ok. Aromas are cocoa, cake, and toffee. Some spice, gentle pepper, firmer cinnamon and vanilla. Ancho, cacao. Real rich. Initial is fuller bodied, cocoa and roast, toffee and toast. Some vanilla, gentle pepper, cocoa, and mellow coffee roast. Some richer vanilla, cinnamon, some sweetness. Cacao, and mellow pepper. A touch of oak, spirit. Initial is medium bodied, a bit more full with some toffee, toast, and cocoa. Vanilla, cocoa, and roast. Some toffee. Firm cinnamon and pepper as we move into the middle and backend. Some good barrel, a bit of thinness into the backend. Some toast, toffee, and cocoa. Some vanilla, cinnamon toast. Some really nice elements. Finish is a bit more fruity, some dark fruit, black malts, and spice. More pepper, cinnamon than anticipated. Gentle barrel, spirit, and vanilla. Nice, a touch hot and thinner into the finish but really rich aromas, toast, and front end. Nice.

Bottle, 08/18/2013. Pours black, medium dark tan head fades to a haze on the surface, thin ring of fine lacing. Aroma is rich, moist dark chocolate cake, cinnamon cracker, chili lending some heat to the roast character, huge coconut notes, vanilla, round whiskey finish. Taste is silky dark chocolate, sweet dark fruits, cinnamon vanilla and coconut, chili heat building with each sip, blending with the whiskey, lingering toffee. Thick body, silky, chewy, almost liqueur-like. Super tasty.
