Mexican Cake is Westbrook’s first anniversary beer, a deadly imperial stout brewed with vanilla, cinnamon, Ecuadorian and Ghanaian cocoa nibs, and habanero chilis. This special edition has also been further-infused with coffee beans. Drool now, so you can drink later.

Bottle pour at CBC2012, from some old notes. Dark black, tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and cinnamon. Thick in mouth, light carb, viscose. Flavour is rich chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, chilli, spices, coffee grounds. Long finish.

Draft at Westbrook. Pitch black pour with a large chunk brown head that last throughout the whole beer. Massive coffee aroma, very fresh roasted Ethiopian beans, vanilla, cinnamon, spicy peppers, chocolate, earth and bitter cocoa. Thick rich, velvety body that’s packed with huge amounts of coffee, vanilla, spicy cinnamon and habeneros, bitter cocoa nibs, fudge, earth and hazelnuts. So good, so much coffee.

650ml bottle. This is a special version of this beer with cold-pressed espresso. Black pour. Huge espresso aroma. Flavor has all of the base beer’s components with a heavy hit of espresso in the finish. This is one of the best coffee stouts I have ever had and hopefully they release it in 6 packs sometime.

Keg at Beer Temple Amsterdam. Black with tan head. Aroma - strong coffee, ash. Body is medium, smooth, some spritz and more carbonation than I’m used to with the style. Taste - strong sweet coffee, chocolate and chili. So, basically, it tastes of the stuff they threw in with the beer. Didn’t get much cinnamon and vanilla though.

Just as advertised Mexican cake in a bottle. Cinnamon, spice and everything coffee beans! That is how the expression goes right? Well it does now!

Otter shared by Greg at Darkness Day - big spicy nose. Big thick black pour with a tan head. Big spiciness in the taste without being hot. Herbal, chocolate and good.

On tap. Pours black with a dark-ish brown head. Aroma of malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is like the aroma but also has a good peppery chilli flavour. Habanero peppers in beers can go either way, but feels balanced here. Starts out sweet but has an intense chili aftertaste...but it works. Full bodied. Great imperial stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Chocolate fudge and caramel dominated by roasty coffee. Another great beer from my backlog.

This is a gorgeous beer. Opaque, very dark brown, with a dark mocha, perfectly formed head. Strong aromas of milk chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel is viscous and very pleasant. The flavors are comprised of chocolate milkshake and coffee. A bit of smokiness too. There’s some nice capsaicin burn at the finish. Man, this is an amazing creation.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2013 Tap @ Westbrook
Appearance: Pitch black with off-white creamy head
Aroma: Coffee, chocolate
Taste: Big time coffee that transitions into dark bittersweet chocolate
Palate: Big, smooth mouthfeel
Overall: Impressive that the coffee can push through this big beer. Really good coffee flavor without acidity.
