Mexican Cake is Westbrook’s first anniversary beer, a deadly imperial stout brewed with vanilla, cinnamon, Ecuadorian and Ghanaian cocoa nibs, and habanero chilis. This special edition has also been further-infused with coffee beans. Drool now, so you can drink later.

On tap at CBC 2012. Deep black in the glass, almost no head. Malty aroma with coffee hints. Starts intense malty, modest sweet, again some coffee. Soft-malty finish, well balanced. Nice!

Via trade with zombi3brainz. The aroma is chocolate. cocoa, vanilla. The appearance is a lovely black, big tan head. The flavor is chocolate, vanilla, hot pepper. The pepper really scorches on the finish. Nice thick creamy body. Honestly, the only drawback to this is the peppers. A little would have done this beer good. But as you drink more of this, the peppers dominate. Probably this wouldn’t occur in a small serving. Nice beer, with this one drawback.

Another gem from Westbrook, tasted at CBC 2013. Very nice complex aroma of roasted malts, sweet coffee, chocolate/mocha, some spices or red peppers. Most of those come back in the taste, were the spices give it an extra bite. Nice desert!

On tap at CBC 2013, Saturday evening, looks like a fine espresso, nose is coffee with faint chilli and liquorice, body is burnt caramel, coffee, more liquorice, chilli, and cinder toffee, the only downside is a cloying demerara sweetness in the aftertaste.

Draught at CBC 2013. Black, dark rich beige head. Fudgy, caramelly chocolate/cocoa aroma in a surprisingly well balanced mix. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Sweet with medium bitterness.

Tasted on tap &Craft beer co, London, 30/06/2012. Look is amazing, with dark brown foam, totally opaque. Aroma - smells of everything at the same time! Cacao beans, coffee, roasted malt, black pepper, vanilla far away - a demented mix! Taste - wow, it is the strangest stout I've ever tasted! definitely could drink it on a constant basis, but the taste is well balanced, number of different notes is incredible. Aftertaste - moderate bitter with pepper spiciness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Looking at the beer, it’s very promising, the first sniff makes me even more hopeful, and when I finally taste it, I’m completely lost. First of all, it looks gorgeous, jet black and with a finger-thick tan head. The aroma is wonderful, but not superb, with lots of coffee and chocolate, some spiced hints and roasted malts. Maybe a faint hint of prunes in the back. The flavor takes me to heaven, it’s so complex and wonderful, with lots of delicious coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. A nice chili flavor blends in, giving a certain warmth in the mouth, coming stronger after a while, but never at too high levels. There’s also dried fruits and cola in the flavor, but not much. It’s full-bodied and warming in the palate, finishing with lots of dark flavors and a pleasant chili burn. Damn, damn, damn, this was just f’in wonderful. Best beer on the festival I say. 120511

Draft at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours thick black, oily, with a heavy, brown-red head. Extremely heavy dark chocolate nose, deep coffee. Big sweet flavor, light booze, plenty of coffee, dark chocolate, light spice, thick brownies. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, light boozy sting, some coffee bitterness, oodles of mocha character. Very, very rich beer. Intense, though still nicely balanced. Great.
