COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mexican Cake is Westbrook’s first anniversary beer, a deadly imperial stout brewed with vanilla, cinnamon, Ecuadorian and Ghanaian cocoa nibs, and habanero chilis. This special edition has also been further-infused with coffee beans. Drool now, so you can drink later.

Draught at CBC. Deep black beer with half a finger of beige head. Aroma of vanilla and milky coffee boiled down to a Viennese melange coffee. Taste is very sweet with lots of vanilla, delicious, but I miss some bitterness to balance out the syrupy of this beer.

ClubGonzo (5359) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 23, 2012
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Black body, medium white head. Intense filter coffee to the nose, followed by mocha, cocoa, dark chocolate, molasses and hints of pepper. Taste is big, no - HUGE coffee notes, cocoa, sweet malty tones, hints of leather and pepper. The vanilla has seemingly drowned, and the chili is very subtle. OK, but despite the complexity this beer doesn’t really rock my world.

Tap @ CBC, 2012.
Pours completely black with a staying, creamy, brown head. Aroma has plenty of coffee, chocolate, light peppery, softly roasted. Medium carbonation, nice creamy and mildly dry mouthfeel. Flavour starts off very sweet with some brown sugar, then coffee and dark chocolate takes over and adds a sprinkle of chili burn. Nice.

draft at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. rich, frothy carbonation with a fudge cake chocolate note that suggests very much it’s coffee cake name. inky and rich (more due to carbonation than sugar/malt body), there are some chocolate whip cream and plum/black cherry notes hidden somewhere beneath the cake-rich full froth of this beer. really well made and enjoyable to drink and not suggestive of it’s weight at all.
