UPDATED: JUL 1, 2012 Keg at the Craft Beer Co. Pours a pitch black colour with a big brown head. Long lasting foam. Aroma is huge and bold: roasted malts, coffee, vanilla and cocoa beens. A hint of tartness as well. Taste is mostly sweet, with chocolate, coffee, roasted notes and vanilla, some tartness again and light hot spicy sensation from the chilli peppers. Bold body with good carbonation. Overall, extremaly enjoyable, flavourful and magnificent. All the ingredients are easily identified, no one prevails and they work perfectly together, amazing.

This is a gorgeous beer. Opaque, very dark brown, with a dark mocha, perfectly formed head. Strong aromas of milk chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel is viscous and very pleasant. The flavors are comprised of chocolate milkshake and coffee. A bit of smokiness too. There’s some nice capsaicin burn at the finish. Man, this is an amazing creation.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. From notes. Chocolate fudge and caramel dominated by roasty coffee. Another great beer from my backlog.

On tap at CBC 2012. Black with a nice creamy head. This beer was the greatest suprise at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration. A lot of coffee both in the aroma and taste. Sweet with bitter chocolate, some spices and toffee. Who needs dessert when you can have a beer like this? Really excellent stuff!

On tap at the Cask, Pimlico - 07/08/12. Pours a rich black with a filthy brown head! Strong coffee, chilli and aniseed on the nose allied to rich dark malts. Full on coffee in yer face with bitter dark chocolate, spice, chilli and a lovely all round roasted flavour a pinch of vanaill pod. A modicum of carbonation, fullish bodied with a great aftertaste of coffee and warming chilli. Head retained well to the end - the dirty beast! Top draw !!!

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Looking at the beer, it’s very promising, the first sniff makes me even more hopeful, and when I finally taste it, I’m completely lost. First of all, it looks gorgeous, jet black and with a finger-thick tan head. The aroma is wonderful, but not superb, with lots of coffee and chocolate, some spiced hints and roasted malts. Maybe a faint hint of prunes in the back. The flavor takes me to heaven, it’s so complex and wonderful, with lots of delicious coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. A nice chili flavor blends in, giving a certain warmth in the mouth, coming stronger after a while, but never at too high levels. There’s also dried fruits and cola in the flavor, but not much. It’s full-bodied and warming in the palate, finishing with lots of dark flavors and a pleasant chili burn. Damn, damn, damn, this was just f’in wonderful. Best beer on the festival I say. 120511

Another gem from Westbrook, tasted at CBC 2013. Very nice complex aroma of roasted malts, sweet coffee, chocolate/mocha, some spices or red peppers. Most of those come back in the taste, were the spices give it an extra bite. Nice desert!

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2013 Tap @ Westbrook
Appearance: Pitch black with off-white creamy head
Aroma: Coffee, chocolate
Taste: Big time coffee that transitions into dark bittersweet chocolate
Palate: Big, smooth mouthfeel
Overall: Impressive that the coffee can push through this big beer. Really good coffee flavor without acidity.
