This traditional Flanders-style sour red ale was aged for 2.5 years in red wine barrels. It is named in honor of a very energetic cardinal who used to fly around the outside of the brewery during the first half of 2011 when this beer was originally brewed.

This one poured a ruby red color with a beige head. Aroamw as of red wine for sure, light vinegar, lemons and furits. Flavor was definitely more red wine than expected from most red sine aged beers, light funk vinegar and acid. Solid and complex.

Brownish-red pour, tan head. Nice sour Flanders sour. Good red wine vinegar, vinous, oaky, more fresh oak than toasted oak notes. Sour and tasty.

Bottle with thanks to Eric! Pours hazy blackberry hazel with a fairly fizzy head that mostly dissipates quickly leaving a small tan residual that laces decently. Aroma is very oaky, tart cherries, some bready dark fruity malts. Flavor is light sweet initially fading into a light tartness, lots of oak flavor and tannins, but surprisingly not a lot of red wine vinousness. Some semi-sweet malt base pokes through as well. Minimal funk; mostly just a clean light tartness. This one is very easy to drink, but not overly complex.

Pours a deep amber, red hues with a 2 finger off-white head that slowly recedes into moderate lacing. Aromas of deep oak, red grapes, funk, tart cherries and some nice wheat. Taste is fairly acidic and tart upfront. Not quite puckering, but a fair amount of wine character form the barrel. Moderate carbonation keeps the mouthfeel lively along with a medium body of grain sweetness. More fruits follow into the finish, but a nice crisp tartness rounds things out.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of sourness/tartness, some light oak and wine, caramel and darker malts, some dark fruits, and light spices. Flavor the same with a nice blend of oak and sourness and dark malts/fruits. Average texture. A really good beer.

Bottle courtesy of Andy. Pours a deep brownish red body with thin white lacing. Aroma is sour cherry and a light, muted vinegar. Mouthfeel is soft and sour with notes of tart cherries and sweet strawberries, light funky wheat and and soft sour character arching over all else. Very nice that the flavors round out nice and softly on the palate with not too much vinegar coming through.
