COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional Flanders-style sour red ale was aged for 2.5 years in red wine barrels. It is named in honor of a very energetic cardinal who used to fly around the outside of the brewery during the first half of 2011 when this beer was originally brewed.

A lot of different smells... Oaky. Some red wine. Raspberry. Musty Barrely smell,. A little strawberry. Appearance is reddish brown hazy. Head retention is nice. Taste is very complex. Oaky finish. Sour. Raspberry. Strawberry. A little light almost on the taste. A hint of malt on the finish as well. I dunno. I’m having a little love hate thing. It’s good in its own right...... A subtle fruitiness but the oakiness dominates.... But maybe that makes the fruitiness more appreciable. Some plum maybe. Palate is very sour. Great flavor development. Smooth. A really interesting beer. Excited to see a sour come from a small new brewery (and more excited to be a part of something after moving to South Carolina after living in Grand Rapids with founders..) lots of great flavors. Good for a special occasion. Check it out if you can grab a bottle.

A hazy amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, brettanomyces, and wood. The flavor is sweet with notes of lemons, brettanomyces, straw, and wood, leading to a tart finish.

Bottling date 11/04/2013. Brown-amber color with small white head. Aroma is soft vinegar, some chalk, but in a nice way. Taste is barrel tannins, but without being bitter, a bit "morsch". Low carbonation. Absolutely beautiful!

Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, barnyard, funk, dried fruits and vinegar. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter and light sour with a long dry, vinegar, fruity and funky finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle shared by Carl from Belmont Station. Colour...hazy, garnet hued brown with no head. Nose...acetic, with notes of cherry, cassis, vanillin and spice. Palate...briskly tart and fairly vinous with crushed cherries, grape must, oak and pie crust. The whole of the palate is acetic and fairly plush with plenty of fruitiness and a long tart finish.

Shared at 4th of July party. On a day of a couple of sour browns this one comes in pretty well but a little thin comparatively so. Flavor is there with lots of fruit and a nice medium tartness. Bit acidic on the finish. A little lighter in the body.
