Kind of hoppy for a pale aLe so it's more like an IPA. Grapefruit hop aroma. Good body and appearance long-lasting head, lacing clear yellow color. Not a bad beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Location: 12 oz can from Superstar Beverage - Huntington, 10/2/14, 3/31/14 date on the can, so not the freshest, I didnít catch that in the store...

Aroma: The nose is sort of mineral, with spice/rye, and some earthy hop notes
Appearance: It pours a murky gold-orange with a small head and some mid-heavy lace
Flavor: The taste along the same lines, spice and mineral flavors, mid bitter on the finish
Palate: It has a medium body, average-to-lively carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a solid beer. Itís a little on the odd side, I canít say I can really think of another beer that gives the mineral almost beachy kind of aroma that Iím getting out of this one. The flavor is more typical, but that character is still there. Interesting beer. Would love to try it a little fresher to see the difference.

Lost rate. South Carolina#1 courtesy of Columbus Circle Whole Foods, NYC. Sky Blue can split at home with my other half. Hefeweizen haze with a dense but subsiding white collar. Fresh, slightly saline aroma with Brewdogesque juicy mandarin and guava over chunky honeyed grain. Smooth and again saline with less assertive hop on the palate; watery guava and rust, some stewed green, Darjeeling and honey. Flattening, nearly dead condition. Pleasant if a little flat and metallic. Would go down nicely in a Kauaian kayak.

Shared 12 oz. cans poured to snifters showing a light, orangey gold/straw color, with a silky layer of white head foam, and waves, spots, and strands of lacing. The nose was spiced & dry, with citrus notes of lemon & orange. Light to medium bodied, with almost overly lively carbonation that got in the way of the beerís drinkability without burping. Otherwise, a tasty, sessionable brew, with some creaminess to the mouthfeel, and hop bitterness that was citrusy & dry.

On keg in CBC Clapham. Colour is light pale amber, slight cloudy, thin white head. Nose is light grain, musty rye and barley, floral, hoppy citrous, juicy grapefruit an orange. Taste is musty grain, rye, citrous. Itís light and refreshing with a beautiful aroma. Nice rye beer.

12 oz can, thanks Matt. Pours a hazy golden orange with lasting head and moderate lacing. Aroma is full with tropical fruit and piney citrus. Flavor is rye spice upfront and pine with active carbonation. Finish is tropical fruit and bitter grapefruit citrus. Medium bodied.

Iím not 100% sure what hops and malts went into Westbrook One Claw (except for rye), though I bet I could take an educated guess. All the local beer nerds in my area have been raving about this beer all summer so I finally decided to give it a try. Iím definitely kicking myself for not having done so sooner since it definitely lives up to the hype. A hop bomb for a pale ale, but with plenty of malt presence to give it balance and remain a true pale ale.

I poured a 12oz can into a goblet. The freshness date was unreadable; it cost $3.19 ($0.27 per ounce).

Appearance: Pale orange/golden hue over an extremely hazy body though some carbonation can be seen rushing up the edge of the glass. Pours to a small, white, soapy head which retains and laces fairly well.

Smell: Strong hoppy aroma with distinct herbal and citrus juicy notes.

Taste: From beginning to end thereís a strong hop flavor here; a combination of herbal/earthy notes (probably Mosaic or a similar hop) followed by a tropical fruit juice/citrusy flavor (probably Citra and/or Simcoe hops). A solid malt base supports these hops quite well, though theyíre not especially bitter. Thereís a spicy bitterness throughout this palette, balanced out well by the use of rye in the malt foundation. Light on the sweetness, but there are faint notes of lemon. I like how the hops re-emerge at the end and create for additional juicy flavor. This is a pale ale I could drink often without becoming bored.

Drinkability: Whatís really nice about Westbrook One Claw is the fact the beer is just so easily drinkable. Technically a fairly ďlightĒ beer at only 5.5% ABV, it has the body of something much stronger. Itís quite robust compared to so many other brews of the style of comparable weights. Itís also a pleasure to drink as the mouthfeel is well carbonated, but still quite comfortable as itís not spastic and goes down super smooth. Itís refreshing while in the mouth; though it does leave a slightly pasty aftertaste, which is easily tolerated.
