Can, as ’Rye Pale Ale’ on the label and sampled @Leyton Technical, Leyton, London, 13/2/2016. More of a hefe weisse than rye pale ale as depicted on the label.. Loads of coriander, banana and bubblegum. Despite being old it held up staggeringly well. For a beer which was this old I was very impressed. It was very lively and ott yeast. However I am thankful for the rye malt used as it attributed to a well-aged beer. Not completely oxidised like most US beers past their prime. Very well made but style-wise I’m very confused.

Puszka 0,355 l. Aromat cytrusów, żywicy, wyczuwalne nuty chlebowe, zbożowe. Barwa jasnopomarańczowa, zamglona. Piana biała o średniej obfitości, pęcherzyki drobne i średnie. Opada do cienkiej warstwy, zostaje do końca, ładnie zdobi szkło. Smak zbliżony do aromatu, lekko słodki i umiarkowanie gorzki. Z początku wyczuwalne nuty cytrusów, żywicy, później lekka słodowa kontra. Finisz gorzki, ziołowy, nieco zalegający. Całkiem pijalne. Wysycenie niskie.

Can from BottleDog, Edinburgh. Hazy golden body with a thick off-white head. Lively carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of lime, grapefruit, Rich Tea biscuit, steel and wood. Flavour of tonic water, pine needles, toffee and spicy hops. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Light fizz. Crisp and well balanced. Delicious.

330ml bottle (thank FatPhil). Cloudy orange color. Small size, white head, stays. Citrus, sweet, marmalade, farmhouse elements in aroma. Oranges, mango, fruity and citrus in taste. Fruity, but bit soapy in aftertaste. Medium carbonation. Medium bitterness. Harsh. Average brew.

355ml can (Beerfox, Riga)
Huge rye aroma on pouring, in the glass, it’s perfumey, resiny, lots of plant-matter, harsh, and acidic. Tastes of pure soap. Rough and harsh, and I want to scrape my tongue. Plants evolve chemicals like these as a defence mechanism to persuade animals not to eat them.
