2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at home from ales by mail, aged 18 months
slightly hazy mid amber with rich honey grain nose, like wash fresh out of a distillery tun. Rich fruity yeast esters, some warming booze. Medium bodied, gentle carbonation, sweet, green apple, honey, weetabix, lots of esters, little bitterness fairly brief finish some leafy vegetable notes and sherry suggestions. Fun to try but not my style.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle. Hazy, dark golden amber colour with small, frothy, fading, off-white head. Malty aroma with toffee notes, some malt-spiciness with hints of lovage, soup cube, marmite, dusty dry fruit, port. Taste is minimally sweet malty, some malt-spiciness, again hints of toffee, marmite, port, raisins. Not fully unbefitting in its shopworn, old-fashioned style considering the maintenance of traditionalism one may encounter at least to a minor degree at Oxbridge. Nice to revisit an historic Ale for catching a glimpse of it... once.

Caramel, floral, earthy, alcohol. Yes, definitely tasted of alcohol! Very drinkable, even the mushroomy back-flavour complemented the other nuances. Distinctly sweet.

Bottle dated 08.15. Toasted malt and cheese and onion aromas, slighty butyric. Chestnut brown body with a moderate, loose white head. Medium bitterness with a touch of sweetness and sourness. Nuttiness. Soft carbonation and dry texture. Lasting bitter-sweet finish. Full body, Very well-balanced and drinkable strong ale. Would pair well with strong-flavoured foods like a mature cheese

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Amber, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light dark fruits - berry fruitiness, light hoppyness and faint alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light dark fruitswith light hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light caramel and light fruitiness, light hoppyness, light - some alcohol. Bit one-dimensional. Could use more body and bitterness to balance alcohol and caramel sweetness.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tastes like it says with raisins and molasses but also has weird taste a bit like a metallic taste that puts you off drinking it again after half of it, bottle at bottle shop.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
See: Orange brown. No discernible head just a slight white foam on top.
Smell: Raisins and molasses.
Taste: Dried dark fruits, raisins. Sweet at the front, bitter at the end but then the sweetness of the fruit taste comes through again at the end.
Pallet: Medium carbonation. Long finish.
Very interesting ale with a rich flavour. Would probably only drink one per session because of the vivid flavour but very enjoyable.
