COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Occasional;
It’s based on a 1938 recipe from the old Westerham brewery for an audit ale, based on the strong ales served at Oxbridge colleges on the day students took final oral exams and grades were announced.

Cask at Christian Firtal. Dark amber with a lasting, creamy off-white head. Malty aroma of toffee and breadcrust, with a fruity touch. Malty sweet flavour with dried fruit. Quite a lot of alcohol showing. Firm bitter finish

Cask Conditioned Gravity Dispense St Albans BF 2010. An amber coloured beer with off-white wisps of head. A fruity aroma with berries and wood. Fruity malts in the mouth. A nice old fashioned stronger English ale which is nicely boozy.

Cask at the William Webb Ellis (JDW), Twickenham - 14/04/12. Dark amber colour with small white head. Caramel, malt dominated nose with background fruit. Taste follows on with a touch of biscuit, more dark fruits come forward. Higher end of medium bodied with a dry finish.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Market (No) Porter.
Semi hazy amber gold with a thin white film topping. Big and fruity with some candy sugar and barley. The extra booze is showing slightly but it’s not killing it. Sugary finish with some late dryness. Lots of length. Straight forward but enjoyable.

Cask handpull, SIBA Champions’ Fest 09. Aroma mint sauce, meat stock, jellied red fruit, wood and sweat. That’s what my semi-legible scribblings say, anyway. Had about 20 after hours halves lined up by this stage like a mad scientist, and things were starting to get a bit...shabby. Rummy wood notes, chew of raisin, light body, hint of aniseedy spice maybe. Dryish hop finish. Odd but enjoyable.

Scopey (6325) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2011
Gravity at the Grape and Grain Spring Beer Festival 2011. It pours amber with low carbonation and a thin off-white head. The nose is wood, dark fruit and berries and caramel. The taste is oak, varnish, vanilla, red berries, apricot, lemon peel and parma violets, with a boozy, wood finish. Decent old-style strong ale.

[5/12/12] Cask at Charlie’s Bar in Copenhagen. Clear amber. Earthy hops aroma with some somewhat toasty malt. Flavor has some mellow maltiness, a bit bready and toasty, with a bit of sweetness at first, but quickly turns bitter and hoppy, earthy and citric, to create a mouth-drying finish. Silky mouthfeel. Very nice.

Dover Beer Fest. A typical well made old fashioned, characterful, hoppy premium bitter from Westerham. They are a damn fine brewery. It must be the yeast. Great character. It must be the brewer. Well balanced. Great brew.
