COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Occasional;
It’s based on a 1938 recipe from the old Westerham brewery for an audit ale, based on the strong ales served at Oxbridge colleges on the day students took final oral exams and grades were announced.

500ml bottle. Pours a medium copper, with a beige head. Malty, roasted aroma, caramel, dried fruit, alcohol, hops, apricot, chocolate. Off-dry, medium bodied, mid to high bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty taste, apricot, caramel, dried fruit, marzipan, light roast, hops. Quite rich, with some Barley Wine-like notes. (2014-05-14)

Cask - White Cliffs Beer Festival. A dark ruby red colour with a fine beige head. Strawberry aromas and a malty caramel character. More berries in the taste on a thickish body. A smooth mouthfeel and a dry fruit finish.

Cask handpull, SIBA Champions’ Fest 09. Aroma mint sauce, meat stock, jellied red fruit, wood and sweat. That’s what my semi-legible scribblings say, anyway. Had about 20 after hours halves lined up by this stage like a mad scientist, and things were starting to get a bit...shabby. Rummy wood notes, chew of raisin, light body, hint of aniseedy spice maybe. Dryish hop finish. Odd but enjoyable.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Market (No) Porter.
Semi hazy amber gold with a thin white film topping. Big and fruity with some candy sugar and barley. The extra booze is showing slightly but it’s not killing it. Sugary finish with some late dryness. Lots of length. Straight forward but enjoyable.

Cask at the William Webb Ellis (JDW), Twickenham - 14/04/12. Dark amber colour with small white head. Caramel, malt dominated nose with background fruit. Taste follows on with a touch of biscuit, more dark fruits come forward. Higher end of medium bodied with a dry finish.

Cask @ Wharf. Pours a amber color with an off white lace of a head. Aroma is mostly of fruit esters, toasted malt, nutty notes, dark berries, citrus and caramel. The flavor follows the nose with with fruit esters, toasted and caramel malts, dark berries, nutty notes, citrus and a little bit of diacetyl. The body is medium with a lightly watery mouth feel.

See: Orange brown. No discernible head just a slight white foam on top. Smell: Raisins and molasses. Taste: Dried dark fruits, raisins. Sweet at the front, bitter at the end but then the sweetness of the fruit taste comes through again at the end. Pallet: Medium carbonation. Long finish. Very interesting ale with a rich flavour. Would probably only drink one per session because of the vivid flavour but very enjoyable.

Bottle. Amber, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light dark fruits - berry fruitiness, light hoppyness and faint alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light dark fruitswith light hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light caramel and light fruitiness, light hoppyness, light - some alcohol. Bit one-dimensional. Could use more body and bitterness to balance alcohol and caramel sweetness.
