2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: Clear, very pale golden coloured with a small, but stable foamy head. Grassy hops in the nose, some sweet malt and a tinge of iron; almost tart bitter flavour, light bodied; light to medium grassy bitterness and a big metallic tinge in the aftertaste. Unpleasant, the hop extracts rule...! A typical bland "slim" Pilsener in the northern-german style.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
(330ml bottle) Clear, very pale yellow colour with a short foamy white head. Sweet bready and malty aroma with grassy hops and metal. Sweetbitter flavour, medium to light bodied, good carbonated, crispy mouthfeel. Medium sweet malty taste with grassy hops; light to medium bitterness at the end with grassy and herbal hops and a tinge of metal in the aftertaste. Still drinkable but very average, even for a Pils from the Sauerland.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear light golden with a white soap bubble head. Cardboard malt and grass aroma. Thin bodied and grainy but also too sweet. The maly flavor tastes cheap somehow. Some bitterness in the watery finish. Clean with some hop flavor though.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
OK ... with such a small set of ratings there is surprising variation. Pils is my favorite of the German lager/near lager styles, even though I guess Pilsen is by now Czech again. Beer is thin, too lightly hopped, I think, and lacked the classic salty taste I have come to associate with the Pilsner hops or the maltiness I have come to expect from a true Pilsner like Urquel.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2005 Very refreshing and simple brew. Nice hoppy flavor that doesn’t try to make too much of a spectacle. Good, good stuff. Hints of hops and wheat, with a slight rounding of malt in the finish.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Draft, Willingen, Germany. After a day of skiiing in the German Sauerland, we landed in some restaurant, where they served decent german schnitzels and some beers from this brewery. However, the beer is nothing special. Light yellow color, short white head. Aroma is light hoppy, some wheat. Dry and hoppy taste.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Classic German Pilsner. One must consider the style. Clean. Very simple, refreshing and fulfilling. Pretty well balanced. I can only guess Hallertau hops and a moderate percentage of carapils malt (lightly sweet then dry). Enjoyable.
note: Texas law is back asswards calling "lagers" over a certain strength, "ales". No respect for actual factual scientific terminology or standard definitions used by the rest of the world.
"Under Texas law, "ale" is used as a synonym for "malt liquor" and, therefore, is by definition not beer. Alcoholic Beverage Code §§1.04(12), (15). Use of the word "ale" in advertising a beer product is, therefore, calculated to provoke erroneous conclusions as to whether a particular product is a beer or a malt liquor." WHAT???

No nose to speak, though nothing bad about it. Yellow colo and a spongy head. Sharp pointed hop end that tinges to the center of the tongue. Otherwise nothing in the taste profile to speak of. Thin and dry, watery but somehow balanced.

Ok - I have to admit that I*m not very nice to German Beers every time I come back from Belgium - I might have a spoiled taste :-) but still...
Light yellow, little head, fizzy carbonation, sweet corn nose, herb, parfume and hay taste.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Beer pours pale golden with a decently retained egg white head. Aroma is hoppy and a bit grassy. Flavor is pretty full on hops for a pils and there is a brief presence of some malty graininess. Pretty good for the style.
