2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Draft, Willingen, Germany. After a day of skiiing in the German Sauerland, we landed in some restaurant, where they served decent german schnitzels and some beers from this brewery. However, the beer is nothing special. Light yellow color, short white head. Aroma is light hoppy, some wheat. Dry and hoppy taste.

330ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grainy, strawy aroma, some malty spiciness. Taste is minimally sweet pale malty, grassy and mildly bitter hoppy overtones, slightly metallic finish.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
500ml bottle. Pale yellow-tan color. Thin, oily head. The aroma is kind of old and approaches putrid buttery. The body is soft, but the flavor just isn’t there. I’m sure this isn’t the freshest example. Lemony cardboard finish. Not good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours clear light yellow with a moderate sized white head. Aroma has light dough, light (if any) toast to the malt, bit of spice and very smooth lager. Medium / light crisp body with a light amount sharp carbonation. The flavor begins with pale pils malt, very noticeable spicy noble hop character, pepper and some grassiness. The finish is much more grassy and has a hint of sulfur, but not as much as many pils. Quite nice.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml bottle in a lager glass. Pours golden with a fluffy, white head. Aroma of pale malts and bread plus light hops. Flavor about the same, with a little off-taste. Average to light texture. Decent for the style.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
(bottle) pours a clear golden colour with a frothy white head. aroma of barnyard, cow manure, light brown sugar and rotten peaches, slightly oxidized. flavour is mostly pale malts, straw and barnyard, with a hint of cardboard, a light sweetness and a slightly minerally light-bitter finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Babushka Russian deli in Walnut Creek. It pours a crystal clear golden yellow color with a small white head. The aroma is rather simple with some bread and apple juice. Maybe a hint of spicy hops. The flavor is a little better. No skunk here, with a lot of bread. Not much hop flavor and kind of a bland maltiness as well, but nothing bad. Decent body and mouthfeel. A well made brew, but it lacks style and needs a boost in flavor.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
It crazily says "ale" on the bottle, I presume to fit Texas licensing laws, but oh well.... I had a really open mind about this, and with the tradition of German purity laws, even some presumption of quality. I was disappointed. It pours a weak yellow with obvious large carbonation like a mineral water and a reasonably formed, white head. The aroma carries a bit of hops to it but also some grassy, skunky notes--this was a brand-new shipment to Texas, so it is not old. The flavor has a certain sweetness with a residual sticky afterfeel, but early on I reacted most strongly to a metallic twinge lacing across the front flavors. Undistinguished beer, even in its style. At least it didn't have any adjunct flavors--how could it, afterall, when the Purity Laws ensure that all the beer coming from Germany is high quality (dry sarcasm intended).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear pale straw color with a small white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Minimal lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation retaining the thin head. Aromas of apple, pear, honey, grape, cracker, bread, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt/fruity ester notes with a fair amount of hop presence; and solid strength. Taste of pear, apple, cracker, grape, honey, bread, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, cracker, bread, honey, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice and pleasant balance of malt/fruity ester flavors with a fair amount of hops; with solid flavor robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and lightly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid Pilsener. Good balance of malt/hop/fruity ester flavors; and extremely smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pour is a straw yellow with a large white head. Aroma is dry pils malt with a little burning in there. Flavor is again a light pale pils malt with a little burning flavor in the end. This must have gone bad somewhere along the journey.
