33 cl bottle. BBE 17.05.2013.
Originally rated on 20090812.
Pours dark red color with large foamy off-white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, dark malts, belgian yeast, spices, earth and barnyard notes. Flavor of dark malts, sour and ripe fruits, spices such as coriander and cardamom, yeast, sweet caramel, some mild lactic acid and dough. Very strong carbonation, mildly sour palate with a sweetish aftertaste, full-bodied. A bit more sour than I recalled.

11.2 oz. bottle at the Nook. Pours a dark, hazy brown with a thin head. The aroma is nuts, toffee, dates, and a little citrus. The flavor is very sweet and malty. The palate is medium to heavy, syrupy, and grainy. Overall, this is a delicious and well made beer.

33cl Bottle. Poured into Westmalle chalice, nice apperance, deep red with off white head which slowly diminishes and laces the glass as you drink. Aroma of bread and caramel with some yeasty notes. Flavour starts sweet with some raisin and caramel, ends slightly bitter. Alcohol well disguised. Nice on the palate. A great dubbel.

Stone fruits and caramels are very apparent. Beautiful brown and red color. Raisins and chocolate are there at the finish. Creamy and lively with carbonation that is there but not overbearing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of my favorite Dubbel’s. It is a must if you are checking out the style. This beer is very nice fresh but does tend to take on a bit of oxidation over 18 months.

Bottle from Peckham and Rye’s, Hyndland.
Dark ruby brown, big off-white frothy head, hazy. Gushed out when opened bottle. Bottle only left to settle for 1 day.
Aroma of fruit, dark caramel malt, yeast.
Taste of yeast, dark malts, dark caramel, bit of raisin, bitter hop and spice. Alcohol well masked. Doesn’t seem very complex.
Palate Dry, moderately bitter finish. Very high carb. Easy drinking.
Overall - seems good but I have a cold so I can’t get much on the aroma - will need a another review, but I didn’t get much complexity in the nose and taste. Good but not outstanding.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip. Appearance: Extremely dark ruby with massive, billowing tan head that leaves bubbles sticking to everything it touches. Wonderful. Aroma: Very fruity (raisins, apples, banana) with some light clove and caramel. Most of the aroma dissipates after a few minutes. Taste: Strong raisin and banana, fairly sweet, somewhat offset by clove, nuts, hops and pepper at the finish. There is a little caramel malt undercurrent, but the sweet, earthy and almost funky fruitiness really reigns supreme. A little unbalanced for me, but still very enjoyable. Palate: Moderately high carbonation, medium but almost thin body. However, it became very smooth after I accidentally overpoured the second half and got foam all over my table. Overall: Another world class Dubbel that I find to be enjoyable, but does not quite knock my socks off. Not sure why, as I like Quads and Belgian Strong Dark Ales a lot.
