3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sebletitje (4011) - Enghien, BELGIUM - APR 13, 2011
draft @ Little Delirium, Brussels.
Cuivre, mousse beige.

Enjoyed on 3/2/11 in a Chalice glass. Burnt sienna color, cloudy body. Headed beige close foam, small bubbles, carried on ´til the end. Wide lacing. High sensation of malty aroma, yeast & low hoppiness. Medium body, low carbonation very well balanced. Very soft & dry bitterness in mouth. Perception of high level of alcohol under your tongue, crisp. Subtle chocolate on the aftertaste. Surprising beer even not being my favourite one of the style. Suggested for a long & paused drink.

bottle; dark red-brown cloudy with large tan head; aroma-sweet, caramel, molasses, spice, dried fruits-raisins; taste-moderate sweetness, carbonation and bitterness. Great beer, almost like some sweet sherry.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Shakesbeere (187) - Oxford, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 30, 2011
0.33L bottle in Brussels. Pours a very nice nut brown amber. Smells of dark fruit - cherry, fig, grape/prune - caramel malt, and very light banana. Mouthfeel is very smooth - initially finely carbonated and later feeling thick and velvety. Flavor alternates between a slight hop bittersweet tart and deep fruit, caramel, and brown sugar. Very finely balanced in every discernible respect. Finish is exceptionally smooth. Quite clearly an exceptional brew.

Big deep dark amber pour, not much on top, head was prettty thin, but still appealing. Smell was a massive caramel, malty sweetness. On to the taste, and well, very malty sweetness as the nose, but a nice dry fizziness to finish it off. At first I was not that impressed, but that was based on the hype, but as I drank a few more sips, it warms up to you and the fizziness on the end cleans the pallate and your ready for more. A true classic.
