Bottle 330ml. Exceptional. Aromas of dough, caramel, and chocolate. Taste is subtle, sweet, with bitter notes, and long length. Palate is velvety, smooth, with a medium-to-full body. Dark brown, with a frothy head.

Great Trappist beer. It was once my first abbey ale and ever since I think this is the best Trappist. Should be drunk from the chalice glass.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 obguthr (2385) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - JAN 7, 2011
BBE: 01/09/11 sampled 01/08/11 Very old spiderweb laced aroma. Overripe apple, kiwifruit, and coconut notes also present. Opaque brown, huge tan head. nice lacing. Dry and woody rotten apple flavor, with definite spider web accents. Finish is apple skins and barley husks, bordering on cardboard. I wasn’t expecting this to be one of the better trappist ales, but it was distinctly good. I especially loved the mustiness.

330 ml bottle in Germany. Let this one warm before you open it. Pours a very dark ruby brown color, with a very long lasting light brown head. Aroma is quite dry with a good fruity pear presence, some alcohol, malt even makes an appearance. Taste is malty with a very effervescent quality, a strong fruit content that follows with the pear aftertaste and also a good sweet caramel flavor. Fairly quick lightly sour finish, that makes you want to drink more the second it makes its way to your stomach. I paid .88 cents for it at a supermarket. It was 4 Euros at the Bier Temple. I have become a huge fan of this Brewery.

Pours cloudy dark brown, medium head that quickly dissipates, no lacing. Taste of caramel malt, grows through a long warm alcohol finish. Solid brew that drinks easy and lasts pleasantly.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Wolfbass (517) - Firenze, ITALY - JAN 5, 2011
Il colore è un bel marrone scuro-nero con cappello abbondante di schiuma beige. L’aroma è abbastanza dolce, con tracce di cacao. In bocca è buona, niente da dire ma io me la ricordavo molto meglio.
