Bottle. Pours dark brown with thick beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, brown sugar, and malt. Flavor is initially sweet with dark fruit notes and finishes with earthy/woody notes. Medium mouthfeel and light carbonation. Solid beer.

This is the third beer of Christmas 2011. The Dubbel poured a deep brown color with a 2 inch frothy head. This is only my second Trappist ale. The medium body with lively carbonation. Taste of plums and raisins was present. The more I drink the better this ale becomes. Smooth finish with no bitterness.

0.75 l bottle from Alko. Dark reddish brown color. Raisiny aroma with fairly strong clovey spiciness, banana and some solvent. Flavors of raisiny caramel, clove, pepper and plenty of fruity esters (banana). Highly carbonated. Either this brew or my taste has changed but ten years ago I liked this a lot more. Fermentation character (spiciness, fruitiness and solvent) seems to be over the top detracting the dark malt character.

£2.60 for this in Micro Bar, Manchester, had this in a large goblet wine glass. I’ve tried Chimay Red and this is a similar percentage, red/brown coloured beer with a fluffy beige head. As for the aroma, malt, raisins, banana. Quite a sweet flavour and a bit of bitter, very tasty. Very pleasant on the palate. I too have had Rochefort 8 and 10 before this, they are better but this is still an outstanding beer.

Kompleks duft måske med noget gær, duft af byg træder frem. Smagen lever ikke helt ikke op til duften, markant humle.

Bottle. Pours red/brown with a fluffy white head. Complex aroma of malt, raisins and brown bread. Big hit of sweet dark fruit at first with a bitter middle that fades into a long sweet finish. An all round great beer.
