I don’t have specific tasting notes, but I love abbey dubbels, and Westmalle’s is one of the finest, as are their other beers.

Bottle. A really interesting beer. It pours a dark ruddy brown with a tan head that lasts well and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is really complex with pepper, clove, malt, grass with a flowery, minty backbone. It is slightly drier on the palate than expected with flavours of pepper, yeast, mixed spice and even pinot noir. In fact it wouldn’t be too big a stretch to call this the pinot noir of beers. Intriguing and tasty.

Wonderful beer, with the kind of complexity you tend to forget with the more extreme stuff. Very dark red, lowely glow through the darkenss. Compact, Lot of dark berries. Cherries, prunes. Dryness from the hops, but they are not easy to distinguish. Dry finish. Should appeal to most peaople, shoudl be available in every beer bar that is to be taken seriously.

Pours a dark reddish brown, big head that drops very quickly. Nose of sweet malt, fruit, spice. Taste is malt to a sweet and spicy finish. Perhaps a tiny bit warming. Medium body, creamy texture, bubbly powerful carbonation. Overall a decent brew, probably the best Dubbel I’ve had so far in my experience.

This poured a cloudy reddish brown color with an off white head. Aroma was sweet malts, fruity and spice as well. Flavor was mainly spices, a little sweet, alcohol came through a bit as well. Ok for the style.

Bottle. Poured rubyish brown with a tan head...very bubbly. Aroma was sweet malt, some spice. Flavor was the same, not overly sweet, just right, very well balanced. Bubbly mouthfeel, smooth finish. I think it’s a great example of the style. Solid all around.

Overall a very good beer. When I first poured, I must not have been paying attention as I managed to fill the entire pint glass with foam. After figuring out how to pour, the color was an opaque chocolate brown. The head was a dark tan and lasted a while.

Reddish dark brown with a good beige-ish head. Good rich flavour, nicely carbonated with a roasted, earthy malt flavour and hints of fruit and alcohol. Good stuff.
