pours rich amber red with medium head. aroma of sweet red fruits, toasted malts, yeast, spice, alcohol. drinks spicy and rich malts cut with a sweet candied red fruits and rich raisins, finished up with a smokey leathery earthy tones. fantastic

750 mL. Pours a deep amber. Nose is very sweet, musty. Some spicy hops and yeast. Flavor is full bodied with yeasty, fruit character.

330ml Bottle: Rating # 2000! Aroma of yeast, malts, dark ripe fruits, slight raisin, and a hint of caramel. Poured brown with a hint of amber in color and a large, foamy, fluffy, tan head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of yeast, caramel, malts, light dark ripe fruits, and some raisins. Medium body. Slightly tingly, medium-dry texture. Average carbonation. LIghtly sweet, caramel, and yeast finish is a bit sticky and a little dry.

33cl bottle poured into a Westmalle Trappist glass. Pours dark brown with ample tan frothy head. Beautiful yummy looking beer. Smells malty and sweet. Flavour is like nuts or raisins, kind of sweet and bitter. Palate is smooth with light carbonation. Doesn’t taste as alcoholic as a lot of Belgian dubbels... especially for a Trappist. Very drinkable beer.

11.2 oz. Cola brown pour with tan head. Aroma of faint dark fruits- sweet malt. Sweet taste at first, then has some dryness and a little sweetness at the end. Leaves a nice flavorful dryness at the end. Nice lacing of the glass.

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2009 Re-rate: Carbonation in this bottle seemed normal. Flavor wasn’t very rich, kind of thin, even maybe lightly metallic. Very different than the previous sample. Mouthfeel was extremely fizzy. Alcohol not very noticeable, also different than before. Weird.

This might not have been a great sample. Carbonation was wildly out of control, dumping a ton of foam on my shirt and leaving a 5" head in the glass which took a looong time to settle. (Bottle was not agitated at all.) Alcohol smelled and tasted quite a bit over the 7% shown. Still, I liked this one. Mildly burnt sort of caramel/chocolate flavor.

330ml bottle in Ghent on the river. Pours nice deep brown and red color with a large airy white head. Aroma is fruity and nutty, much like the taste. Flavor is compex, but the drink is surprisingly thin. Very good for an intro into Belgians

330ml bottle into a Trappist glass at the Belgian Beer Cafe in Brisbane. A cloudy red-brown ale with a healthy off white head and nice lacing. Strong aromas of dried dark fruits, sugary caramel malts and subtle spices. Juicy fruit palate with a nice warming spicy yeasty finish. Medium-full bodied with a smooth drinkability. Recommended.
