pootzboy (858), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Mar 19, 2007 33 cl bottle from LCBO...properly labeled with all the neccessary warnings.
Pours a dark clouded red-brown ale into my Westmalle chalace with a proper 2 finger off-white cap..cap reduces to a proper mat and laces well.
Aroma is intoxicating...chocolate, figs, smokey-vanilla bean sweetness and a musty under tone.
Silken mouthfeel, creamy-cocoa character...best mouth feel and palate of any beer I’ve tasted!
Starts with a warm shower of deeply toasted malts and coffee-cocoa tones which become balanced with some tame but assertive hop bearing...mid palate the mix gets more complex, there are a number of flavor decernments but the one that stands out is that of a chocolate covered smoked apple...finishes wet with more flavors arriving late;earthy dates, toffee-earthiness and smokey fruits...add to this a dangerous drinkability and inherent smoothness and we have one of the world’s best beers.
There is little I can say compared to the accolades this beer has had from proper critics....all I know is that I wish I had a consatant access to it...if I did I may lose my love of German dunkler bocks.
timbeer (4), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA does not count Aug 28, 2008 Got this one from matsciguy - thanks man. Nice smooth aroma, clear brown sugar color, not too carbonated and the head was not too sticky or rocky and didn’t last. To me I tasted raisins and plums. Mild bitternes and light on the tongue. Very nice. Straling (11), Amstenrade, Netherlands Aug 23, 2008 Bottle 33cl.
Very fresh and sweet scent, can find traces of apple, banana and a slight trace of orange. Taste is also fresh, delightful caramel and chocolate, mixed in a whole variaty of different fruits.
Lovely on the palate.
An excellent dubbel beer! blipp (713), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours red brown with a beihe head. Fruity aroma, with raisin, caramel, banana, and bubblegum. Flavor is way malty, with dark fruit, a hint of chocolate, and a dry and slightly hoppy finish. Very good. esox (102), Oulu, Finland Aug 21, 2008 Bottled. A hazy brown beer. Medium head is cloudy and white in colour. Warm aroma has lots of sweey&sour fruits, raisins, dates and some hops. Malts are sweetish, a bit toffy in the finish. The finish is medium bitter, surprisingly sour and dry. Medium bodied. Foaming and a bit fizzy carbonation, but mouthfeel is still quite smooth. gauguin007 (6), Seattle, Washington, USA does not count Aug 18, 2008 Champagne bottle from corner market here in beer heaven Seattle. One year in bottle. Pours clear ochre with foamy tan head. Aroma of apricots, sugar, figs, cloves. Flavor of burnt sugars, orange peel, ripe bananas, hints of caramel and toffee. Lingering finish of earthy ripe fruit skins. Slightly oxidized. Luxurious foam clings until the end. Mightily satisfying.
