4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
330ml bottle into a tulip.
Pours a clear very dark brown, nearly opaque. Topped by a huge billowy off-white head that keeps growing thanks to the abundant carbonation. Some of the best head retention I have every seen.
Aroma has lots of dark fruit such as figs and cherries layered on top of wood. Hints of pipe tobacco along with wet grass and hay. A little bit of light cocoa underneath.
The flavor really has tons going on. Like in the aroma, dark fruit predominantly up front consisting largely of cherries and figs. A decent woody note is present along with a little bit of must although it nicely compliments the other flavors. Grass comes in next along with a moderate, cleansing bitterness. The beer finishes dry on the palate with bitterness lingering long after all other flavors depart.
Overall, a truly complex and amazing beer. There is really so much going on here and the flavors change as the beer warms. One of the classics.

On a flight of beer at Meisterstück. Intense banana and other fruity sweetness, some clover, full-bodied, but still dry and crisp. Surprisingly dark color, beautiful foam.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 33cl at home. Pours dark brown to reddish with a large tan head. Aromas include peach, apricot, just a tiny hint of caramel. Very nice lacing. The flavours intensify the caramel, perfectly balanced with fruits (including raisins and banana now) and with a very rounded malt in the finish. Some citrus comes in too but is mainly secondary. Extremely exquisite. With the yeast, a ginger-like zest comes in. Not too sweet at all, really well developed flavours. Long finish, medium to high carbonation, medium body, oily texture. Balances fruitiness with its natural dryness: good combination, well blended! Definitely a Dubbel worth trying. Hats off to this beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured out of the bottle a black brown. 40ºSRM.
Nose has some nice date sweetness to it. There is almost a soda pop citrus sweetness to the nose that is no doubt the product of the carbonation. The strongest aroma profile is that of 7-up.. There is a candy sweet aroma that is like a hard candy.
Mouthfeel is aggressively carbonated and there is a sweet burnt sugar profile that is sweet, and slightly smoky . Almost like the crust on a creme brulee. Could be described as caramel, but it also has a herbal, slightly grassy flavor to it, which lends the flavor to comparison with a local drink of "grass jelly" or "chin chow".
Finish is abbreviated and beery.
This is a traditional product, again, you either like it or you don’t and it won’t matter one bit since it’ll just continue to be brewed with the attention that it has in the same manner since forever. A very good example of the style.
