33,cl bottle. Pours deep brown with gold/cocoa highlights. Half-finger off-white head diminishes to layer of film. Enormously fruity nose--prunes, raisins, cider, sugar. Sweet, malty attack, with a dry, hollow finish. Fizzy and low-medium bodied.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown with a huge lasting rocky off-white head. Nice lacing. Very nice complex aroma of Belgian yeast, sweet malt, brown sugar, chocolate, dark fruit and more. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, brown sugar, hops and alcohol -- very flavourful. Medium bodied. Truly fantastic, this is one of the top Dubbels in my opinion.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry at Smokeless Joe. Pours a bubbly murky dark reddish-brown with a small light-brown head. Mild sweet aroma of malt, fruit and a touch of hops -- it smells great. Sweet malt flavour was good but not as good as expected after that great aroma. I quite liked it but it didn’t knock my socks off.

Chestnut brown with a rocky towering beige head. Aromas of unspecified fruit and soft yest. A little figgy raisiny fruit and soft sweet malt. The mouthfeel is much softer after swirling the last of the bottle to stir up the yeast before finishing the pour. Still, I found it to be on the thin side. I think I prefer some of the other dubbels I’ve tried, but that goes against the general consensus here.

Not difficult to get as other trappistes. Nice appearance, red and a big head. Good sweet and spicy aroma. Has a little fine laqurice in the flavor.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2004 Draught at The Rover, Gotehnburg, Sweden. Brown and a little hazy. Large off-white head. Fresh aroma, could it be pepper? A warm alcohol-feel. A lot of chocolate and some fruits in the flavour.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 14 July) Colour is dark brown, with hints of ruby, and a frothy head. Nose is malty with butter-scotch, toffee, dark bread, caramel and marzipan. Taste is malty, a bit roasted, with dried fruit, figs, nuts (hazel nuts) and somewhat lactic. Well balanced sweetness and a touch of hops in the finish. Nice brew!
