Bottle. Dark brown with reddish tinge and a rocky beige head. Sweet toffeeish aroma with some fruity overtones. Taste was also sweet, a bit too sweet for me as I struggled to finish it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mabel (4129) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 9, 2007
[366-20070625] 330mL. Smells strongly of malty alcohol with a hint of cherry and light yeasty Christmas spices. Clear, dark brown red body with a long-lasting off-white head. Tastes like strawberry licorice with an alcohol kick but nice aftertaste, also very sweet and reminds me of fresh bread. Smooth full body. Booze is overly prominent.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 thedm (4116) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 9, 2004
This bottle brew poured an extremely large head of foamy finely sized very long lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind a very good lacing. The wonderful aroma can be smelled from a distance of over 2 feet. It has notes of mild caramel malts brown malts some vinuousness and mild spices. The mouth feel is vinuois initially smooth and has an alcohol bite followed by a brown beer lingering taste. Very potent tasting. The flavor is a bit overpowered by the vinuousness of the alcoholic mouth feel. Notes of caramel dark malt roasted malts and port come to mind. A very interesting beer. A must try.

Mahogany color with a viscous 1" head. Nice earthy smell of dark pit fruits. Decent taste same as smell is malty sweet up front with a fairly dry finish. This beer tastes better at 60-65*f than when chilled. The yeasty crud at the bottom of the bottle had a good flavor of ripe plums. 013006
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 skortila (4035) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - AUG 22, 2002
UPDATED: APR 12, 2004 Very good appearance. Flavor is quite heavy, bitter and a strong palate.
Rerate (april 12, 2004) Very malty, smooth fruity aroma with raisins. Red brown coloured with a brown lasting head. Much debris. Taste is fruity (cherry ?), malty and sweet. Excellent brew. A bit my homebrew, I always have westmalle dubbels in stock. What makes this beer so great is that it never bores.. It's always great. Not many beers have this potential.
