Black beer with a frothy off white head, and a weak but refreshing aroma. The flavour is malty and slightly fruity. Overall a very pleasant, very nice beer.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, brown body strewn with fine yeast particles and topped by a full, foamy, off-white head.
Smell: Quite fruity with strong notes of plums and dried bananas. Hint of chocolate. Spicy yeast character. Malts are less prominent.
Taste: Dry, slightly bready dark malts with a restrained sweetess. No more than a touch of chocolate. Light spice. More bananas and less plums in the flavor. Mild hop bitterness. Dry finish with a tangy fruitiness and lingering yeast note.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation.
Drinkability: A solid, though somewhat subtle Trappist ale.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2008 Bottle (33 cl) from Systembolaget. Murky reddish brown, big firm pale beige head. Malty, earthy, sugary aroma with a distinct yeast profile. Very smooth mouthfeel. A little plain compared to other trappist beers.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 notalush (3617) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 20, 2003
Small, off-white head - dark amber/crimson color - nice clarity - highly vinous, with notes of chocolate, brown sugar, raisins - slight sweetness and substantial yeast presence in the finish - very subtle and enjoyable - one of the more subdued trappist ales I've had, which is actually a good thing in this case - medium bodied, yet heavy at the same time - a must try for belgian ale lovers.

Bottle. Pours red brown with a beihe head. Fruity aroma, with raisin, caramel, banana, and bubblegum. Flavor is way malty, with dark fruit, a hint of chocolate, and a dry and slightly hoppy finish. Very good.

In the bottle. Dark reddish pour with a gargantuan dark beige head. Aroma of chocolate and cherries. Strong malt body that is quite buttery. Not quite the outstanding flavor that I had expected, but very good.
