Aroma of figs, raisins, liquorice. Rich caramel flavor with a touch of cardboard. Very nice and reliable, though not ultimately exciting.

Very dark brown color with a thick creamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts and hints of spice. Light flavor of caramel malts with hints of Candi sugar and light spice.

Heads up very nicely. Aroma of chocalate, caramel, toffee - very very nice. The head is rather dry and, like the tripel, my first thought is that the alcohol dominates the flavor too much. Also, it’s really rather thin in character. Not a top-of-the-lind double to me.
3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 nick76 (3461) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JAN 4, 2006
The aroma is dark fruit, raisins, malt, alcohol, sugar, and yeast. The appearance is dark brown purple with a nice foamy head. The flavor is fruity, sweet, salty, and bitter with some raisins and a little coffee as well. The palate is thin for an Abbey Dubbel. The finish is dry. Overall it’s a good beer but my expectations were higher.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jukkabro (3457) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUN 16, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 11, 2007 (Rerate 110507, prev 7-3-5-3-11) Cloudy and dark brown color with little yellow head. Aroma is rich with nuts, biting spicy hops, chocolate, brown sugar and toffee, rather sweet aroma. Medium bodied, pretty high carbonation. Flavor is somehow watery with syrup, chocolate, spicy lemon, some disturbing tangy metal also there in aftertaste with some yeast. Again this beer let me down, maybe next time...
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 GT2 (3440) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 20, 2008
330 ml bottle. Orval trappist chalice. Pours a dark, hazy brown with a generous, dark tan head. Excellent lacing. Aroma is chocolate, black cherries, raisins, alcohol, vanilla extract. But overall the aroma is fairly muted. Taste is very sweet- almost like Dr. Pepper or black cherry soda. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Light to medium bodied with some good carbonation. Aftertaste is sweet, chocolaty, and short lasting. Very nice and unique from the traditional dubbel.

Drank from 11.2 oz bottle in Brussels, Delerium Cafe.
Head - big nice white head, that stays around for awhile.
Aroma - strong fruity smell
Color - dark amber color
Taste - This is great dubbell, well balanced flavor of fruit and malts.

Bottle at home, drank with Pieter. Very good flavourful beer. Smooth, not too much kick. Very tasty.
