4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 beerbuzzmontreal (3413) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 5, 2004
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2007 Brown color with medium head. Heavenly aroma of oranges with alcohol vapors. Spicy orange flavor with alcohol vapors. Medium body. This is an amazing beer, for me, Westmalle sets a standard for dubbels and trippels and the other breweries have to work hard to be up to that standard of quality.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 JK (3400) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 7, 2006
What a disappointment. I love a good dubbel and they are hard to find. This one has little to offer for a rather expensive beer. There is a light apple aroma which makes me think the beer might have been spoiled, but the best by date was over a year away and it was stored appropriately. A dark brown beer. Malt flavor, but not nearly enough of it; and no fruit at all. Thin body, and clear appearance. I will have to try it again, but I didn’t like their their tripel either so maybe there is something about this brewery that doesn’t work for me.

Dark brown/red pour with a whompus head of off white head. An aroma of rich malt, raisins, and light alc. A flavor that is fruity raisins and more alcohol than the 7% says it is. A mouth feel that is smooth and as carbonated as the style is. Another beer I wish didn’t cost so much, cause I’d drink more of it.

330ml Bottle - Gravity Beer Market - Olympia, WA
Aroma – A big Belgian aroma from the yeasts the malts are very prevalent also.
Appearance – Dark brown in color, Nice thin head and clear.
Flavor – Huge Belgian flavor, dried fruit and a strong yeast flavor.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, great texture with a good dry Belgian finish.
Overall – One of the best Belgian I have ever had. The flavors the fruit and yeast mixed well it was not so yeasty that you did not want another. This was near perfect.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 kramer (3376) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 20, 2005
12 oz bottle. Pours a murky brown with ruby highlights when held up to light. Had to wait a few minutes to get a good feel for the aroma until the large frothy head died down. Aroma is very rich, notes of dark fruits, caramel malt sweetness, belgian yeast. Flavor is very dry up front, I was expecting sweeter from the aroma. Smooth flavor profile- malt, black cherry, alcohol, fruity, yeasty. Mouthfeel is perfect, medium bodied with mouthcoating finish that last well into the next sip. Lively carbonation fits this beer well. Very good Dubbel, I guess there’s a raeson this is considered a classic.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ante (3375) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 7, 2003
A really nice dubbel, without any traps. You don't get lost in "the Jungle of Complexity". Just a straightforwad dubbel. Colour is mahogny-brown with som haze. Lively carbonation with a dense, thick biege head which last long. Smell of dried fruit, yeast and some chocolate. Taste is very malty with a good bitterness and a medium body. Raisins and dark chocolate seem to dominate the picture. Hints of dried apricot and some banana. Some sherry-tones from the alcohol.

Hazy dark brown colour with a nice off-white head. Aroma of cherries, raisins, plums and other sugars-all with a malt background. Medium to Light-bodied; Mild sweetness with strong bittering malt. Not much flavour-definately lacking-not what I had expected. Aftertaste is bland as well, not too great-only some malt showing. Overall, a nice treat, but not as good as I had expected. I got this 33 cL bottle courtesy of my sister's fiance which he got from Belgium! I sampled this one on 27-November-2003.

Beer 2 of O’brien’s Trappist Tasting 2/3/07. Dark brown pour with a small light white head. The aroma is rich and malty and sweet. The taste is sweet and strong, stronger then I’d expect from 7%. Solid Dubbel.
