Bottle from BevMo. One of the best dubbels out there. Dark reddish-brown color with a huge off-white head. Aroma is fruit, yeast, and sweet malts. Flavor is malty with dark fruits (raisins, plums, etc). Nice smooth medium-full palate.

Dark brown color with hints of red and a thick tan head. Aromas of malt, toffee and dried fruits. Fruit, nut and malt flavors. How about a Trappist cereal? Smooth body and crisp finish.

Bottle. A huge sized head that was ivory in hue, foamy and fine-medium sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. The hue of this beer was reddish brown with a malty, sweet and fruity nose. The flavor was sweet, caramel and alcohol tasting with a smooth mouthfeel. This beer had good lacing to it. A worthwhile Abbey Dubbel and very recommended.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2007 I have only managed to have this one a couple of times over the years. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark chestnut color with a small tan head. The aroma reminds me faintly of root beer. The flavor is light malts and a hint of ripe fruit. There is a hint of a sour tang and a fairly bland finish.

Big beige foamy head, not lasting. Dark brown. Aroma: malty, fruity, nutmeg? Taste: fruity, caramel, hiding alcohol. Minor bitterness. Nice dubbel.

11.2 oz. bottle from Keller’s IGA. Pours a murky brown with a large, rocky tan head that leaves some soapy lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, candi sugar, hops, dark fruit, and cola. Flavor or brown sugar, cola, caramel malts, candi sugar, and hops. Medium-bodied, with a fizzy mouthfeel. Malty, sweet, and bitter. This one doesn’t stand up to some of its Belgian counterparts, like Rochefort. Still a nice beer, but I am not crazy about this one.
